Could not find an answer to this so am asking: how dos knockback play out in close combat?
Say fighter 1 attacks fighter 2 with their knockback weapon (like spud jacker) and the to hit roll triggers knockback. Fighter two is hit but not killed, so at the end of figther’s 1 attack, fighter 2 is knocked back 1”. So then:
1. I assume fighter 2 is then no longer considered engaged and in cc, and can no longer retaliate with any reaction attacks?
2. Is figheter 2 then pinned? after being successfully hit, but no longer engaged or in base-to-base contact, it would make sense, right (hits cause pinning)?
3. If they are pinned, things are simple, but if they are not pinned, are they considered engaged if they have a versatile cc weapon and can they make a reaction attack with said versatile weapon?

1.
Model 1 can move 1" to perform it's other attacks and keep the defending model engaged, the attacking model (1) doesn't have to do this and the defending model (2) will only be able to 'reaction attack' if at the end of his opponents melee phase he has melee weapons that can reach the attacking model: so if he remains engaged or has a versatile weapon.
(aka it's better to first do your non-knock back attacks)

A knockbacked model that is not re-engaged does not count as being engaged.
2. see reply 3
3. pinning is only caused by ranged attacks (not melee or sidearm attacks in melee)

If the knocked back fighter has versatile range and knockback distance is shorter than versatile range, I think it should be able to make reaction attacks. But not sure if actual rules support it.

reaction attacks are only possible if the opposing model remains engaged.
is there any clarification about versatile range weapons under the description about being 'engaged' or FAQ's about that?

(I checked the online sources, my rulebook is due to arrive soon)
