Hey Everyone, I have been working on my Cawdor gang the Leper Messiahs this week and decided to do a separate thread from my Goliath gang. This is my Leader Cardinal Synn ready for priming. Also posted my previous finished Cawdor leader (which some of you may have seen before!) who will now be just a ganger to give you an idea of the paint scheme. I plan to convert every member in some form as I would like my gang to stand out from a lot of the straight outta the box gangs you see. Hope to have some more members ready to show off soon. Let me know what you think guys 🙂

I adore the good Cardinal's headgear!

If it is the odd kkk-esque hood that's getting in the way of us having a true Redemptionist gang, then I think you've got the solution right there.
Thanks, I’m pleased you can see where I’m heading. I for one will not shy from hooded heads either. I see them more as executioners from medieval times than a small minded racist club in America. I wanted to use this empire wizards hat for sometime now and it spoke to me more as a religious style hat akin to what some Christian faiths would wear. Anyway steering away from religion and racism, I’m pleased you like it 👍

I'd not clocked the source, so thank you for sharing. The admech magos dominus has a similar scalp-warmer but I could see that wasn't what you'd used.

I suspect there'll be a redemptor priest in the cawdor book as a house-specific hanger on, but one lives in hope of a full list.

I'd been about to say that the only problem models I could think of were the flamer deacon and priest with melta - every other model had a pulcinella/pantalone/grotesque mask that couldn't really be mistaken. But then I looked up the fanatic-era models (having ignored them and their fluff at the time) and... oh dear.

Fortunately now the Red Redemption rises once more, purified and glorious of hat!

😂 those fanatic era dudes probably leaned too far in that direction, also they were poor sculpts compared to the originals imo. I did love the Mordheim possessed warband though and as much as they had the pointy hoods etc I don’t recall anyone I knew at the time make the connection. I was sad that the Headsman lost his hood for the final sculpt but I already have some ideas to fix this.

So, meet Sir Gregor! He is a champion in my gang of religious misfits. Loved every minute of making this guy. Before people point out his load out not being optimal etc. I don’t play to win (rarely actually get to play at all 🙁) but I do like to have fun, and I do like my minis to be cool, and I like him and that’s all that matters. Anyway quite a few bits from the bits box on this guy as well as some dental tape 😂. Hope you all like him as much as I do. He is seen as the enforcer of the group, and bodyguard to the Cardinal. I’m really aiming for the medieval theme in this gang and also see him as a sort of headsman type character. Let me know what you think?

I think Sir Gregor's posing is great, looking into the duct-breeze for maximum effect on the banner. Also I'm so glad he's not aiming his flamer into the wind; that's a recipe for martyrdom!

I notice he's the only one sporting a skull in his attire though. Is that deliberate as part of his headsman role or just that it was part of the head already?

Is that a hunting rifle on the right-most member of the group shot? If not then I'd encourage you to consider shortening the barrel, otherwise any missed swing risks bending the gun barrel. But the rifling requires the long barrel, so I guess he'll just have to be careful.

Sorry for the post bombardment [...]

This is the Redemption, brother. "Sorry" doesn't cut it here.
20 lashes while reciting the Imperator Divinitus catechism. We'll just be over here, admiring the synchronised swing your flail-master has going on.

The fella on the left has a long rifle. A conversion I did some time ago and probably has been posted before. I hoped the longer barrel and scope would be sufficient a conversion to represent it, plus it is very Cawdor looking. I’m kinda seeing these guys as a group of crusaders of sorts. Sir Gregor so far is the only skull sporting individual but I do intend on adding in more on some future members. The long rifle will be a specialist and fits into what will be a group of archers. The flail wielded is kinda part squire part flagellant. And Sir Gregor is definitely part knight part executioner. The Cardinal is obviously the religious nut job who has cobbled together this motley crew and future members will form my men at arms and will be wielding pole arms. Glad you are enjoying my updates good sir 🙂

It is indeed a beautiful kit, with so many great parts. In truth, it was a birthday present couple of months ago and has just been sat around until I decided I’m gonna start hacking it up as I don’t really want to play warcry. I will admit though I probably will grab another box as the warband itself is just so damn cool. In relation to the choices I have made headgear wise, firstly I like my minis to be unique. I agonise for weeks about my ideas before I even pick up the tools. Secondly, although the standard kit has some excellent head options which I do actually like, they do however seem to be a bit too similar. I have some more headgear ideas I’m stewing over and hope to be able to show them off soon. 👍

Completely agree, samey heads and bodies are the biggest downfall of the new range. But they have proven themselves surprisingly convertable.

Brilliant for conversions that’s for sure. A quick google search “Cawdor conversions” shows the versatility and uses of this kit in particular. The five bodies I can live with though as it is much easier to make them unique. I do have some flagellant bodies on standby if I decide to use them though.

As per usual I haven’t been getting the hobby time I would like. Usual stuff getting in the way. I have found 30mins here and there to gradually get some paint on two of my gang members though. These are still very much works in progress. I decided to change to a new scheme, partly inspired by some bretonnian men at arms I had seen on the interweb. It also gave me an excuse to finally see what the fuss is about with contrast. I used black Templar and iyanden yellow and these have had just one thick coat. I must say I’m fairly impressed and the result gave me a great base to build up from. Hope to get these boys finished soon and move on to the next couple.
