N18 Looking for advice for my first campaing (HoF)

Hey!, im starting a campaing soon with a group of friends and im looking for some advice on my first list.

I've been reading the forums and looking at another cawdor gangs, mostly I want to build them as wysiwyg before starting, but I dont mind them not being like that as the campaing moves forward if I get some new gear o someone dies.

My first attempt so far:

Leader - Priest:
Chainsword x2
Mesh Armor
Skill: Unshakable Conviction

Champion - Firebrand:
Heavy Crossbow
Skill: Parry

Champion - Deacon:
Grenade Launcher
Skill: Step Aside

Ganger - Brethren Specialist:
Long Rifle

Ganger 2 - Brethren:
Blasting Charge
Reclaimed Autogun
Bomb delivery rats

Gangers 3 and 4 - Brethren:
Blunderbuss

x4 Bonepickers:
Reclaimed Autopistol (i don't know if stub gun or this one tbh)


Im trying to not go full blunderbuss since I don't like repeating too much.

Have you used the gang manager on here before? It makes constructing, modifying and viewing gangs for this much easier.

On your leader for 10 extra credits you can get 2 chainaxe which give +1S and disarm over the chainsword with no loses. Regular caudow champs have frankly awful skill choices but I wouldn't pick parry, if it gets used he's probably already dead.

I can't speak much for bomb rats having never used them but throwing 130 credits (over 10%) of my starting list unto something that I will likely only use at most twice per game is a bit much for me

Having 11 bodies is also good as it means you will nearly always be benefiting from devout masses.
The stub gun vs auto pistol is tricky, one has good ammo and accuracy, the other has rapid fire and worse ammo. This will more be a personal choice, I would probably go for 2 and 2 myself

A few key further questions to ask are:

- What Path are you following?
- What tactics cards are you going to have (what size of deck, what cards etc) and do you have homebrew tactics drawing rules?
- What kind of campaign are you playing (Dominion, Law & Misrule, Uprising, Eternal, homebrew, etc)?

These do matter for determining how you might play the list and/or evolve it.

Nevertheless, I'd almost suggest putting Blasting Charges or Incendiary Grenades on juves rather than the Cawdor Ganger, and using them offensively without fear of losses - run and blow things up!

And I'd suggest having a Redemptionist Brethren with a proper Shotgun (rather than the reclaimed autogun + rats), it's such a useful weapon, esp with ammo options, and has decent range at Str4 versus the reclaimed autogun's sometimes rubbish results.

- I'm still trying to understand tactics as i don't have the cards and only have the HoF book, and havent gotten to read them a lot, we're mostly new and starting so i dont think we'll be using them for the star at least.

The rat guy i guess i just have it for flavor mostly since i like the idea of the unit, i don mind too much changing it tho.
I was more worried about the leader since i don't see many lists with chainswords and don't know if im overkilling the templates with so many explosive gangers

Maybe i can change the rat guy so my leader gets chain axes instead of swords but im trying not to since I want to keep that guy, i like it for flavor xD

Path of the redeemer is good, although it's very much a melee path - you should add some more melee over itme.

It might be interesting to play with out Tactics, but I think I'd miss the flavour they bring (although I've heavily restricted them to the gangs they were released with, so they feel much more thematic). You can find a copy of almost all of them here, but the new Cawdor and incoming Delaque cards haven't been done yet.

I actually think Dominion is really flawed (heck they all are), but it's probably the most played given where it is published. The main thing with Dom is there is a lot of money in the campaign and pretty much no experience gain, except for your biggest killers. So it's quite challenging to advance and you end up with mostly anonymous mooks armed very very well. So be aware of others doing exactly that. The key thing to put your money into now, however, is Champions - you will want as many champs as possible as they are force multipliers for any gang, and almost half your gang can be champs. So save and splurge.

Depending how fluffy you think it feels, other nasty things you want to save up for are Ambots, boltguns, plasmaguns, etc

Rat guy is nice; I guess I was thinking how do you benefit from the better long-term weapon access of Redemptionist Brethren over their impoverished bedfellows. But ratguy is classic Cawdor Boosting his intelligence will be your main aim for him, but as a ganger, hard to plan for.

I can try to change my rat guy to be a champion, guess ill start over another list and try to move things arround, always trying to stay in the 11/12 minis range.

For the moment we're going very basic as we're 4 mostly new players, so i don't know if i'll house sub plots. favours ,etc

Also I forgot to ask before, are tactic cards and the tactics from the HoF book the same? or are they different and I need something else?

The card packs releasing alongside the house of books are the same as the tactics table in the matching book, just card format. If you find any others they are different cards

Ah, there are something like 300+ tactics, but no guidance on what a tactics 'deck' should be. As such, it's up to a given group how you will use them.

So there are ... 30 specific Cawdor cards (12 from the earlier pack, 18 from the new pack/table in book), and lots of generic cards.

I guess since you are probably all playing House of gangs, you could just use those decks/tables in each book. Similarly, if anyone is CGC, Slave ogryns or Enforcers, there are specific cards for them enough (found in that pdf). You don't need generic cards, really, and those include some of the worst cards.

Still don't know hoy viable is this I could remove some bonepickers and add another ganger with blunderbuss or change the eviscerator for 2 chain axes and get some more points to equip axes to the bonepickers, so many choices!

Looks like a fun list,

In my own HoF list I actually made my specialist into the dedicated rat catcher with blasting charges (starts with 7 int and will spend first XP on increasing it) and put the long rifle on my firebrand to take advantage of his superior BS.
