Hello ladies and gentlemen, starting a new Goliath gang and want to share my progress as I go. I have previously attempted a gang with the new plastics but got distracted with Cawdor so never finished. Goliath was my first gang back in 95’ so I do have a soft spot for them. The stimmer above is named “Spud” the Jacker! So good was he at jacking spuds his real name has been forgotten by all including himself. He was a very simple conversion using parts from both Goliath kits. Can explain more to anyone who is interested. I felt the faces on the stimmer sprue didn’t quite scream to me “drugged up psycho” so chose something more appropriate, hope you agree 🙂

Double spud jacker!! 😍
(I’m trying not to picture what a memorable death from these would look like! ...something along the lines of popping a spot I should think!? 🤢 )
😋

That’s a shame. Hopefully over the weekend I can provide more Goliath goodness and hopefully inspire others for when they receive theirs. I have been busy with work this week but plan to get some more hobby done now I have a couple of days away from the madness. We are not locked down as such here yet but I see this period in our history as the perfect excuse to work through the years of purchases (backlog) I have made. Stay strong, safe and healthy 🙂

So more to show off tomorrow but for now I thought I would post my starting gang for critique. I am not likely to be playing any games for a while, so for now I have skipped gene-smithing as I just want to get the gang assembled and painted ready for when gaming becomes possible again. After a few practice games I may well change my mind.

Forge tyrant, furnace plates, chainaxe, bolter

Stimmer, furnace plates, paired spud jackers

Stimmer, furnace plates, assault Grenade launchers

Forgeborn, stub gun, dum dums, furnace plates

Specialist, grenade launcher, furnace plates

Bruiser, stub cannon, furnace plates

Bruiser, combat shotgun, furnace plates

Bully, stub gun, dum dums, spud jacker, furnace

I wanted to squeeze as many in for my starting gang and have a mix of weapons. What are people’s thoughts?

Had a change of heart with Big Vern, I liked the original version with his gangster pose and his fancy bolter but something didn’t sit well with him. I mean a man with a big name needs a big cannon!

Now I know heavy bolters are better but I’m more about the look of the heavy stubber so it’s about rule of cool. Something about the way the forge World heavy stubber looks kinda awkward to me, the way it is held especially. Now the way I made it looks as though it has a suspensor. so after a game or two the investment can be made and no modification needed to the mini. What do you all think?

I did too. I just felt that the bolter will be better on another member of the gang. I want everyone in the gang to be armed with different weapons and have the weapon sum up their personality. I have also decided to just kind of go with what I think is cool and not worry about rules or best loadouts. As mentioned previously I can’t see getting any games in soon and when I finally do I don’t care if my choices are not the best, my gang will look good winning or losing.

So... been a little slack. Work is crazy busy at the moment as I’m classed as an essential worker 😐. I’m still working away on a few Goliath related conversions but nothing worth showing in that regard at the moment. But I did finally get a parcel from Russia yesterday that contained the following!
I also am a bit of a Cawdor fanatic so this was a must buy for me. The mini for those who don’t know is from Artel W. It is their take on the stig shambler an I must say I’m not disappointed. The quality is far superior to FW and is flawless with little to no clean up required. Be hard to assemble him without being tempted to convert it as it’s so cool.

The skull with mohawk proves that Goliath “hair” is actually horns. +1A :-D

So, I have been pondering a theme for my gang since I have started this thread and in many ways it has held me back when it comes to painting them. I have been reading house of chains on a daily basis, searching for something that I can do to make my gang standout from your average “red” forge worker outfit! I was taken with two particular bits of fluff, the first was the idea of Goliath sump pirates in the quinspirus cluster. The idea of war skiffs sailing the world sump gathering loot to return to the forges by gang members with pale white skin and skull face paint seems cool. But painting skulls on faces is the bit that puts me off. So what I’m leaning towards is option two, the dedboys of hive mortis. Zombie fighting, skin wearing, grizzly trophies, nomadic monster hunters. This is a little more achievable as I have lots of zombie bits and skin cloaks left over from a night lord project. I will put together a mock up and see what people think?
