Next up will be the three remaining Carrion Queens before I return to the Underhive Harridans either with the Death Maiden or by painting up one of the Ambots as Tin Lizzy. (I'm planning on doing one of them intended for the Harridans that will use NMM and the other as a more generic Ambot for use by any gang with the rep to hire it which will be done with metallic paints) the other option will be building some more walls so I can play games on larger boards.



Speaking of terrain I have a shedload of plasma conduits that I sorely want to keep quite modular, I'm thinking of venturing into magnetising them but mainly onto their little feet, anyone done anything like that or is it a stupid idea and I should just pick some pipes and glue feet to them?

Since I've been playing some games and currently only have Zone Mortalis rules I thought I'd better get some more walls built! It's been an age since I was last on this project, but nothing gets thrown away!

Yeah, it's great - although a bit shallow in comparison, which isn't as good for drybrushing.

Yeah, we'll see how it paints up, I still will use the granny grating, I just think I'll stick to smaller pieces that are less likely to fall off.

I'd forgotten how much fun doing these walls was, I've been planning these tunnel ones for some time, and I'm pleased with how they're shaping up.

It's a shame the back of the hatch is plain but I think I'll stick a poster on it or something to make it more interesting.

I also pushed ahead and made some more walls, using some more of the nifty resin bits I picked up, they will really add some spice to the pieces I build!

You'll see that the second resin hatch has rear details, but as a result it sits a bit proud from the wall, I think it'll be okay.

I also did a couple of new ladder styles, one using a bit of roominate that I swiped from the kids, and the other by inserting a bunch of square profile plastic rod into some cable trunking, I quite like how this looks so I'll likely make a few more like this.

Those are looking good. Its amazing what a few wood blocks can do with a few gubbins attached. You should have zone mortalis terrain up and running in no time and looking really sweet as well.

Hope so! I burned out after about 8 walls last time!

Anyway in other areas of the UnderHull I picked up some bargains on old issues of conquest, including the plasma regulators, having painted one with blue coils I felt I should add this to some of the pipes.

I think it really adds something having the flashes of blue amidst the dirty metal of the rest.

Next up is doing the other regulator (and more pipes) with reddish-orange coils for variety.

Yes the blue is a great spot colour but I cant help thinking further colour in the shape of graffiti, or posters, or house bannes might break up all that steel even more. Thats a serious collection of terrain. I love heavy terrain boards so this is certainly tickling my fancies.

It would indeed but I'm currently crippled by indecision, I can't even commit to gluing two bits of pipe together or the feet on at the moment! I plan to use stuff in bigger terrain pieces and to colour it up accordingly when I do so, so for now it stays functional but less interesting. One step at a time as they say!

Oh it will be glue, cannot be bothered with magnets, some may stay unglued we'll see.

Something different today, scratch built a gantry and a stair with platform at a height between an old school bulkhead and my wooden walls. So it should work with either.

Plan is that I can make a few of the gantries and use them as part of the gang display in the cabinet.

Feeling that there was something needed to finish the gantry I built I ordered some 90 degree irrigation pipe connectors that looked about the right size to match the black conduit and conveniently some 10mm styrene tube I had fit inside perfectly so I added that to the end of the gantry.

I'm thinking of some little details along the top, perhaps a small scrap pile, bit of cable or something, just to add some interest.

I also added some of the fibreglass tape to the treads of the steps, but didn't photograph that.

That was while I waited for glue to dry on the frame for my next gantry.

This one is much shorter, mainly because I built it to the size of the precut piece of girder I had lying around. It might need a bit more strengthening, I'm not sure what to use on top, I might just keep it simple.

After that I had a little play based on some inspiration i found while visiting a local coal mining museum, in the grounds were just pile of rusty gubbins just set there on the hillside, among them were piles of those steel reinforcing meshes.

So I had a go with the scrim tape to make some, I just folded the tape back on itself, some of the adhesive is open obviously, but I reckon that paint will set it okay. I may paint them individually before stacking them up, for now I've done enough to experiment with, but they are super easy to make so I can knock out a bunch every now and again if I think they work.

If they do I can see piles of them becoming a recurring theme! Be good to bulk up trash for the skip that can either be in it or separate. Or for tile clips, or just some scatter piles.

Having checked them these evening they have all come unstuck, I may need to weigh them down with something while they stick.

So the grids will come apart if not careful, however paint seems to have resolved this problem. I'm happy with the proof of concept, I just need to figure out some more practical uses of them.

I also moved ahead with painting the first gantry, I've got some rough basecoats down but I feel it needs a bit more to finish it off, open to suggestions?

These would be usefull connecting lower levels of different buildings together and with wiring hanging down between the cable ties, beside the condiut, it would reinforce the idea that these are not only walkways, but functional power and air supplies between buildings.

I think I will borrow this idea for my own hive pieces as I have the conduit, wires, and bulkheads needed for this project. Upper walkways are needed as well but most are a single level high so these are very usefull in any hive setting.

I figure they can be pretty versatile, either at ground level or higher up structures, and also as seen below, for display purposes!

As you can see I finished it off with some splashes of colour here and there, I also gave most of it a wash and sponged on some more orange for the rust, which has made it feel a bit more textured.

I mentioned above the display plan and so I popped it in the cabinet and popped some models all over it.

It rather serves it's purpose of expanding the available space for models on the shelf.
