Long post incoming, short version: made my friend some spyrers.
Ok, so I went to my mates house for some games today. Friday was his birthday, and I wanted to give him a gift. He'd told me some time ago that he was kinda looking for spyrers on ebay, but didn't want to paint them. And painted originals go for quite a bit... I decided to pull the trigger and make him some conversions, but only had a week and a half to do it! I acquired a box of Van Saar's and got up early in the mornings to work on them. The plan was 8, two of each kind, but I quickly ran out of time, so stopped at the minimum 5 for a legal team. No, not the lawyer kind. Didn't know his preference either, so made 1 of each and an extra Malcadon, 'cause they're cool! Snapped some quick pictures of the 'before primer' stage.
At this point it was Thursday or Friday, and I did the rattle can trick of black primer with a white spray from above, for that quick zenithal. I also stopped by my local game store to pick up my first contrast paint, as I realised I needed all the help I could get! I got a Dreadful Visage, as I wanted something grey-ish with a purple tint to it. Slopped that all over the zenithal Friday evening, and did my first real painting session Saturday morning. This is how they looked at the end of that.
I did manage to do some painting Saturday evening as well, but got up at 5 again this morning, for the final push. I had to leave at 8:30, but I actually managed to get them to a place where I could be reasonably proud of them. Not great, but pretty good by my standard, I reckon. Here they are, before I wrapped them and hd to head out.
And he liked them! So calling that mission accomplished. He's on the tribe, but I think he mostly, or only, uses the tools. I didn't want to risk spoiling the surprise, though. Hence this lengthy post... If you made it, thanks for looking! I think I'll do a few more spyrers, so he has options. There are still 5 more models in the box, after all.
