One length of plastic tube the size of your biggest section of scope should be fine for the base. Score it twice round and spin it in your fingers on a mini file or piece of sandpaper, a few revolutions should be enough to delineate the sections and make it look like one of those classic spyglasses. If you have a spare lens in plastic pop it on the big end or if not they're easy enough to make.
ED - I realize a spyglass is technically the worst choice for an optic but it would be such a good/silly fit for the equivalent of a sawed off shotgun 😹

Long post incoming, short version: made my friend some spyrers.
Ok, so I went to my mates house for some games today. Friday was his birthday, and I wanted to give him a gift. He'd told me some time ago that he was kinda looking for spyrers on ebay, but didn't want to paint them. And painted originals go for quite a bit... I decided to pull the trigger and make him some conversions, but only had a week and a half to do it! I acquired a box of Van Saar's and got up early in the mornings to work on them. The plan was 8, two of each kind, but I quickly ran out of time, so stopped at the minimum 5 for a legal team. No, not the lawyer kind. Didn't know his preference either, so made 1 of each and an extra Malcadon, 'cause they're cool! Snapped some quick pictures of the 'before primer' stage.

At this point it was Thursday or Friday, and I did the rattle can trick of black primer with a white spray from above, for that quick zenithal. I also stopped by my local game store to pick up my first contrast paint, as I realised I needed all the help I could get! I got a Dreadful Visage, as I wanted something grey-ish with a purple tint to it. Slopped that all over the zenithal Friday evening, and did my first real painting session Saturday morning. This is how they looked at the end of that.
I did manage to do some painting Saturday evening as well, but got up at 5 again this morning, for the final push. I had to leave at 8:30, but I actually managed to get them to a place where I could be reasonably proud of them. Not great, but pretty good by my standard, I reckon. Here they are, before I wrapped them and hd to head out.
And he liked them! So calling that mission accomplished. He's on the tribe, but I think he mostly, or only, uses the tools. I didn't want to risk spoiling the surprise, though. Hence this lengthy post... If you made it, thanks for looking! I think I'll do a few more spyrers, so he has options. There are still 5 more models in the box, after all. :giggle:

Those spyrers look great! I'm sure your friend was very pleased with them.

I've seen Van Saar converted into spyrers before. They work well and you've done a good job. My only slight gripe is that I'd like the Orrus to be a bit bulkier than the others, but not much you can do about that. It's a neat gift for your friend; I'm not surprised he was pleased with them.

Thank you! :giggle: He did start studying rules for them first chance he got, so I'm assuming I'll have to face them before long...

Thanks! And agreed. The Orrus did give me the most trouble, why he got a seperate wip photo... Had I had more time, I would've tried sourcing some better bits, preferably something like power fists and bigger shoulder pads. As it is, he does feel slightly bulkier than the rest, but not nearly as much as I should've liked.

I looked EVERYWHERE for a set of those wings! I wanted to use them for my Freikstorn Strix.. sigh.
Anyway, your Van Saar Syprers are pretty dope.

Thank you, happy with the result myself. :)
I got gifted the wings by a friendly yak, and been very grateful, as they were just a perfect fit for the Van Saar kit! I pretty much just had to cut off the ball that was supposed to slot into the centre piece, and they fit almost seamlessly on the Van Saar torso. Didn't use greenstuff or anything, just super glue.

Unfortunately I never found a set. MicroArt went out of business before I went looking. I got the ones from Puppetswar (which has been mysteriously down for days) and they also fit surprisingly well.

Moving on to yakcomp! Time to make a start on a sniper, so I glued a few bits together and have a plan of attack. It'll be a Witch Hunter with a crossbow.

Now, as Mad Robot hasn't released the pilgrim hats yet, I'm going to have to greenstuff one... Hence the missing scalp, it'll have a hat soonish. I also kinda want him to have a long coat, so I guess that's more greenstuff that has to be applied. So better get cracking. He's also getting a square base, but that's a minor issue. I can see that I have to deal with some mold lines as well, not my favorite task but necessary.
That is the plan. Activate!

All of them! Hats are cool. But the hat is probably not that difficult, found a tutorial on youtube. Will see how it goes, but thanks for the heads up!
