As you might know already my order of jungle fighters has arrived. Two 40mm bases got finished today:

I base-coated the bases white and proceeded to paint the base. It left white spots and the brown wash wouldn´t cover them. I need to go back and use black wash sparingly to combat the spots as they are quite irritating. Maybe when I go to the 25mm bases I will base-coat them black, drybrush all the leaves white and then paint them up in various green tones to not have the same problems again. Anyway, the first model of my new jungle fighter army has already been assembled and base-coated yesterday. There should be enough time today to finish it in one session. See ya later in the evening, folks.

Edit:
I just checked the bases again. You can´t spot the white spots with your eyes. Like at all. That´s not me being blind like a mole but a fact. Camera eyes are just too damn precise. Carrying on with the model.

All mine will be for the Pacific Theater in Bolt Action but so far I’m DIY on the bases with various grasses and plants.

For larger stuff… it’ll probably be much the same. There seems to be a bit of a dip when it comes to tropical/jungle terrain with the usual advice being “plastic plants and cheap aquarium things”. Which isn’t always useful. Or that cheap.

You can get some nice buildings from Sarissa Precision and Micro Arts Studios though.

I didn´t finish the model today but made good progress. There is also the issue of not having the correct green tone for the uniform. I would like to have "Olive" though my collection only contains Golden Olive. Anyway I tried it and it does not cover surfaces easily as it needs more layers. Another good point to use Olive with the forthcoming models. This means I will paint over all the green parts of this model. Apart from that details are still missing such as skin highlights, gun metal, highlights on leather and the whole ammo belt.

There is also a size comparison pic included with Sly Marbo. LOL!

Rather than fake plants for aquariums I go for those fake plastic flowers for home display. They tend to have some greenery type ones you can get cheaper and have better leaf shapes. If your lucky you can find ones that have a few foliage types on a single stem. Normally you'll be looking around £1 for a small bunch. Some times cheap shops like pound land will have a section in with them. The other thing to look out for is the fake topiary. They tend to have a daft amount of leaves on them and worth the couple of quid more as you get a lot more in a single purchase.

Back to Nam with the Cobra Heli Jet:

Gripes:
One of the two long range missiles is missing (pun intended). Not too bad as you have four different weapon system to choose from for the wings though still a bit of an annoyance. As compensation the kit came not with five rotor blades but with seven instead. Guess the mechanics have now spare parts for repairs during campaign play. :)

Assembly was not too bad though there are slight gaps here and there. Again not too bad as this was to be expected. Green Stuff should suffice here.
