MusingWarboss’s Scenery

Hopefully I can get this fellow done soonish.
Do you remember back in February when I had an idea for a statue of some unknown heroic figure for YakComp #50 - well… I’ve finished it!!

Only Five months… that’s pretty quick for me!! 🤣

So here is the “Godly Erection” in all its glory!! Bask in its magnificence!! 😁

So, as you can see I went with the rusty brown in the end for the column, that way it ties in with the ruined buildings - which I think it may well end up being with - these are going to form part of my Ash Wastes scenery - mostly because I think abandoned cities seem appropriate for that environment. I’m currently working on a concrete plinth for it so it settles in the environment better but it will be removable so it can go in hive too!!

I think it would work well in an inner hive market, ZM or SM.

Talking of which:

Here it is in that environment.

Close up of statue:

Right, that’s another project ticked off the list.

Got this lovely “cake” made up last night. An old DVD-R platter, a lovely filling of triple layers of foam core, finished off with wall filler icing. Yum!!😋

Next up will be to add some stippled texture to it and then it will transform from looking like a cake to being a concrete plinth for the statue column in Ash Wastes land - or just anywhere it needs stability.

The central dimple is where a ferrite magnet will sit, there’s one under the statue column which will clamp statue to plinth. Easier to remove than neodymium too.

This is a bonus thing, so not part of the original build design but I felt it needed it. Now if I could get a 3D printed plaque for the front facing (which also helps with magnet polarity alignment) that would be cool.

Statue Plinth Complete!!

Came out rather well and I think it improves the overall look of the statue and column!

Don’t really need to photograph the top as it hasn’t changed.

The plinth and statue are magnetised with some cheap ferrites (think fridge magnets) and it works well enough to stop the statue from being lightly knocked over.

I think the DVD-R is ok as a base, I scored it with sandpaper and a knife to give it some more tooth before slapping on the dark earth paste. Hopefully it holds and doesn’t just peel off sometime in the future!

Back in my student days, I had a large collection of ISP CDs that I used as coasters. At some point, I threw them all out, only to end up later buying CD-Rs to use for terrain bases...

The combination of materials when the rust and masonry base go together looks amazing! Is masonry the right word..?

Moving on from the statue I’m now painting up the rest of my barricades - for the third time!! 🤪

First time just gave them a blast of car paint (See post #1). Wasn’t too satisfied after a while - then stripped them, painted a rusty colour. Was even less satisfied with them!! 😝

You’ve seen the test one I did earlier so I’m getting the rest done now. I’m going for Necromunda basics: yellow and… well… a dark metal. Rust powder to be added later.

Mmmm Necromunda Ice lollies! 🍭

Hopefully I won’t be renovating them again.

Gone for a grimy look on the yellow with various sepia and grime washes. Stuck them to sticks to paint up easier.
