Welcome to the chronicles of my hobby journey, thus far extending over 20 years and many incomplete projects. Having been largely dormant in both online and irl hobby communities, I've awoken from my slumber to re-join the land of the living.

Generally I meander through projects for Necromunda (95), Mordheim and GorkaMorka, Warhammer Quest (15mm), WHFB, WH40k 2nd edition and more; I'm deadline driven though, so I'll open up with my last few Ork I need to paint before a WH40k 2nd edition game happening three weeks from now.

Whoa! Those are some classic orks! I used to have the space Ork raiders box from back then, and recognize that guy in the back left of the picture. (Honestly, I prefer the newer beefier orks, though.)

Thanks guys.

My collection of Orks spans from Rogue Trader through to more modern sculpts. I am a big fan of the older Ork fluff with their very colourful kultur, but I do also like the more brutish Orks that came later. The scale-creep from Rogue Trader to now is mind boggling though.

A little bit of progress. I converted a looted Leman Russ 20 years ago and painted it 15 years ago however, couldn't decide on the turret's cupola. I finally realised the 2nd Edition Ork Deadnaught crew would go perfect in the old Leman Russ Demolisher cupola ring.

I'll go through at some point in the future (ETA 2035) and update the older paintjob, such as the drybrushed reds, to bring the whole model up to date with my newer painting skills/style, but I'm otherwise really happy. The wooden deck on the right sponson is for miniatures to be placed.

Very fun! I actually have two of those old grots as crewmen in my FB O&G army. They are suitably non-futuristic.
That's cool. I think it's really interesting how distinct the WHFB and 40k Ork ranges are; it can be quite difficult to find bits to substitute between ranges (I say with an entire mob of Snakebites that are converted from the WHFB 6th Ed starter).

I love that oil barrel gun barrel sooo much! 😍

It’s so perfect for Orks. Obviously it would never work without the force of the Ork psychic energy of belief.

You're dead right about the oil barrels, but I thank teenage me for that artistic direction (I could pretend they're place over the top of the actual gun barrel, but they aren't).

More progress, this time the Ork Trukk. I bought this from ebay already assembled, so had some challenges removing moldlines and painting hard to reach areas on the crew. I also had issues with my choice of paints for the crew; I love Coat d'arms paints, but they are very low opacity so I had to do more coats than I would otherwise need with other brands. Given my time deadlines for my upcoming games, I'll use other paints for my remaining models of this force. I'll also do some freehand symbols and the like at a later date.

Update time. Two and a half weeks later (which included 5 days away and a week down with the COVID19), I have them all close enough to game ready. Plenty more work to do on all of them, ranging from extra highlights on some, freehand on others and a lot more work needed on the Traktor Kannon and Dreadnaught. I'm really happy with the progress though as this is way more that I would normally achieve and feel like I've got some momentum.

They're all getting packed up tonight for an early flight tomorrow and a weekend of gaming (2nd ed and Necromunda). When I get back I'll hopefully do a bit more work to finish these guys off before I move on to the next project (Mordheim). Here's a shot of the 1500 points plus Van Saars in their carry case.

Final update on the Orks. I've gone through and finished the models I've previously posted and am now moving on to other projects. I've magnetised the Dred's banner pole and will get to finishing the banner later, but probably won't post it as I want to keep my focus on the main games on Yak. I'm quite happy with how these turned out, and have gained more confidence with free-hand and basic glazing.

I had intended on getting stuck-into my Cult of the Possessed warband, but have gotten distracted with some Necromunda scatter terrain.

Here is my most recent scatter terrain. I'm currently working on making some of the various flora in the Underhive, in preparation for a future solo campaign featuring Scavvies struggling to survive in the depths.

(apologies for the odd camera angle distorting the scale of this one)

That one attached behind the wall looks a lot like the puffball mushrooms I sometimes find in my yard. (Although mine are much much smaller.)

Well you better be careful of what you're taking cover behind when defending your territory.

Good use of the acorn bits. Organic stuff looks organic.
My kids randomly started delivering me seed pods etc "for my models," so I had to find a good use for them..

Thanks very much. While I'm adding content, here is my painted submission for YakTribe Comp 54, a statue of a necron made by Diggas to give them good fortune when selling scrap in Mektown. To make it I used an ecclectic mix of materials from my bits box, the most obscure of which are the tab from the old hexagonal citadel pots (red arrow on the front) and green sprue from Space Crusade (pipe on the back connecting up to the head).

I hated how the jap protruded from the face so did a big re-work of it.

Final collage, for which I painted up a Digga for scale/context, and added some 15mm orks and terrain in the back for an attempt at forced perspective.

Here is my digital mockup for my YakTribe Comp 55, which will consist of a trader caravan and a yoof doing busy work (sweeping sand). I hope to make this in a way that it can be used as scenery for games of Gorkamorka.

The smaller rectangles will be tables full of wares, the larger blue one the truck, and the circles in the back classic GW stype cacti.

A week later, here is an update for my planned entry for YackTribe Comp 55, which has ballooned in scale but I'm super happy with where I'm at. Here we see the merchant known as Da Gilda, travelling the deserts resupplying mobs with weapons, ammo and boyz (for a price); he has a well earned reputation as brutal and cunning, and he remains ever ready to destroy and mobs silly enough to try and raid his mobile outpost. The scene will be able to be lifted off of its display plinth and used as a centrepiece on a gaming table.

This project has been a huge learning curve but I'm really happy with the result. Made using files from a range of sources, predominantly Print Minis, Imitation of Life and nfeyma. I'll make the cactus using traditional methods (assuming I don't run out of time).

The next step is to break this into component parts for printing which will be mostly done in resin. I think I will sequence printing and painting in a way that I will have elements critical to the competition's theme ready first, so if I run out of time I can still submit an entry.
