Hey everyone,
I just want to share my custom zone mortalis board. This project has been in my head for quite some time and i finally managed to get it startet.
I've done some research in different youtube channels and was confident, that crafting own unique tiles is cheaper and cooler than the plastic stuff GW is currently selling - man, was i wrong.
I started using XPS Form, thin cardboard sheets, some glue and crafted six different tiles.
After that, i created a mold with 2 phase-silicon and poured in some plaster. For one tile i needed 6x6 tiles. First i used some high quality plaster, but after the first attempts i choosed a cheaper variant. Beside the lower price per kilo it was also way easier to work with it after the drying time.
I used pre cutted wood plates to assemble the casted tiles with a lot of woodglue. I used sand to cover up the crevice between the tiles. I wanted a grimy and very dirty looking board, maybe i did a bit too much.
After the drying time i proceed with a armypainter oak brown primer, followed by a few painting steps.
I am quite happy with the results, but i need some kind of finish, like krautcover fixer, to keep everything together - seems like i used to much water and too less woodglue in the earlier stage :/
