Necromunda stock in GW shops

Went to my local GW on Wednesday to pick up Gang War 4, and they had no Necromunda stock at all - told me I could order it on the webstore. Has anyone else had their store drop it, or is this peculiar to my area?

Do you think Necro isn't doing well, or is it just to make room for the fancy new Kill-Team and Neu-Epic?

I don't have a GW anywhere within 100 miles, but people have been complaining about GW not stocking Necromunda for several months now. My FLGS stocks it, though.

I gather it’s fairly normal for GW to “clear the decks” prior to a big release. Might be that’s what’s happened?

Had the same thing happen to me in Sydney when I wanted to buy Necromunda the boxed set, luckily there was another board game store around the corner.

GW hype train has changed stations.. I think we may of already passed titanicus and headed into a whole new cycle.

What is and isn't specialist games? GW main churning out 2 or 3 new board games by end of the year?

I thought both Blood Bowl and Necromunda was taken off the shelves within a couple of months after initial release? It's just the way GW operates.

I had the same experience. I was told that it's down to them only supporting the launch of a non core game within 6 months. I am lead to believe this is a corporate policy that the manager has discretion over.

It's why we don't have blood bowl, necromunda or warhammer quest in the store. Even brand new releases.

Sadly i think this has heavily limited the player count in my area, who mostly consist of older necromunda vets.

Correct, I haven't been able to get anything Necromunda related in my local store since the November releases. When GW2 was released, I tried and was told I could order online and have it sent to the store with free shipping, which I obviously declined. If I'm going to order online anyway, I will do it through one of the many other Independents that have cheaper prices. GW might think its not in their interest to stock the smaller games, but I only went there to buy GW2 and the Orlock stuff in the first place. They could at make a small order to satisfy demand in the first week of release, as I would probably buy paints etc from them too. Retailers do this all the time with products that don't make huge sales, but the knock on effect is that they harm sales of add on products too, as they lose those customers entirely. I have no need to ever set foot in their store now, and If I need something on the same day, Wayland is only a short drive away.

GW stores aren't really "stores", they're advertising space with a chance of sales. They're more likely to go back to selling their main products over niche items because it's what they're geared for; Kill Team will go the same way, as will Rogue Trader and the new Warhammer Quest Blackstone Fortress (probably Adeptus Titanicus as well, given how small some of these stores are and how likely anyone is to actually buy the huge models).

GW Wellington NZ stocks only Warhammer stuff and Hobbit Stuff. everything else is webstore only. really annoying as I don't play warhammer or LOTR. So I buy the odd paint there and nothing else. The same was true of GW Cardiff and GW Exeter when I was in the UK last year

Sadly that’s the way GW have gone/are going with their stores.

I rarely if ever go into my local GW store for anything I need these days, and yet I pass it almost daily.

I get my stuff from my FLGS which is about a mile further.

there used to be a GW store about 45 minutes from where i live. i was disappointed every time i went in, and they’ve been closed for awhile now (a few years). There’s only 1 FLGS within a half hour that carries their stuff, and what they have isn’t much. i think they keep it because they’re in a military town and some of the guys come in to buy stuff fairly regularly.

Went to my local GW store today to see if they had a cawdor box....nada. they had one boxed necromunda set, 1 boxed blood bowl set and about 8 bloodbowl team boxes. To be fair a few weeks ago they had several gang boxes a few weeks ago....

So instead I went to the LFGS which had multiple gang boxes and bought my gang there

GW stores now only carry a limited range of their core games (AoS, 40k, and Hobbit). And by limited range I mean less than 40% of the range for those games in any GW store.

Specialist games just don’t fit in most stores so they get bumped in order to stock their core models in their core games.

As mentioned they offer an order in to your local store for anything in their range (core or specialist) for no additional shipping cost, but they won’t order in Forgeworld stuff (at least for now).

It always works out cheaper anyway to buy from you local game shop as GW allows them to sell at a 10-20% discount depending on the store (and yes GW does mandate the amount that can be discounted so they don’t undercut GW stores by too much).

Personally, I buy all of my Necromunda Gangs online and not from the GW at all as you get a discount with other gaming stores,

I have every new Gang including Genestealer cult and Chaos cult and will be getting the Delaques as soon as they are released I also have all the books
I Will need to do some research on how to build/structure the 2 cult gangs tho lol

As someone who is abit of an impulse buyer, the decision not to stock Necromunda in my local GW store certainly has been a factor in my non-purchase of most of the Necromunda range.

It strikes me as a rather odd decision as their highstreet stores are pretty much their only form of Marketing. If the game isn't visible fewer people are going to buy it.

I can understand them not stocking the ForgeWorld resin kits (which are expensive and mostly not a good place for beginners to start) but the new plastic kits??

Surely a tiny bit of shelf for the Specialist Games would be sensible?? But then again as I’ve said before “Specialist” Games gives the impression that even they don’t consider this stuff to be a mainstream product.

It’s probably due to stock control / just in time ordering - the bulk discounters will buy from GW and then it sits in their warehouse not GW, GW then don’t have a cost with no value on their books.

I’m also fairly sure the internet side of GW makes massively more than the bricks and mortar side, although they don’t release the split, most of us older gamers rarely go in the stores but we must be the bigger spenders.
