Speaking of Returning to the Underhive...
Over the last week I joined a fun challenge over on the instagram (#24hourtile) that was all about creating one single ZM tile in 24 hours.
This did not necessarily mean "in a single sitting", so I stretched it over four days to not worry about glue or paint drying times and eat, work, shi*t, sleep or even take a walk in between sessions to get back to work focused and knowing exactly what to do next.
First two hours were just digging through my collection of terrain kits and parts to figure out what I actually wanted to do with that tile.
I had ordered a 3d-printed ruined ZM tile from Spain via etsy a while ago that I wanted to use and I also wanted to dust up the floor tiles of my modular Zone Mortalis for Kill Team anyway. This challenge was as good an opportunity as any to finally get going, with some extrinsical motivation and positive stress to push through.
So what did I do?
You may remember that when I had finished my new 3x3 Underhive board I foolishly made another tile with a ruined Enforcer Precinct, which meant I needed two more adjacent tiles. The original idea for these was to simply use the Hab Blocks I had created years ago by cutting up Sector Fronteris hab units and stacking them up, but they were simply too large so I gave them away to 40k folks.
Here' a rough layout of the 24hourtile and some modular elements for the adjacent tile, about two hours into the challenge:
Here's what it looked like before paint:
And then on to some painting.
Add some dry pigments to dust it all up
And here we are, after ~16h30m total over the course of four days... 24hourtile done and dusted. Pun intended.
EDIT: In the pictures it looks much brighter than it is, against the black background and photos taken with an old smartphone, the contrast is way higher than it is in reality.
Hope you like it and find inspiration and motivation to work on your own terrain some.
Cheers.
