Necromunda Necromunda Toolset Comparisons & Updates

Can I ask is it Malo who pays for the site? So if he stopped, would yaktribe die?
So I did some investigation. For context, last time Malo posted was on the 1st of November 2023

I doubt website hosting is paid for a longer period than yearly - that's usually the refresh period for stuff like this in my experience. Domain names are typically refreshed on a per-year basis if memory serves. Additionally, I had a look at the website certificates, basically digital ID slips that tells your browser that the website you're on is who they claim they are. In short, they've been refreshed since his last public post (Cert refresh: 2024-03-23).

So, in short, Malo has been doing some work to keep the site running in his otherwise general absence. How much, and what, I'm unsure exactly. If those payments and those refreshes would lapse, the website would die on its own within a year or two.

Yep someone is about fixing things / renewing things on a fairly regularly basis, last noticeable time being the repair of image hosting, we’ve just not had any contact with them.

In terms of how the site is paid for, it’s via the subscriptions tab in the drop down menu. Hopefully, it’s more or less self sufficient, and if @Malo gets a coffee out of it occasionally he deserves it.

I’ve got access behind the curtain for the forums but not the tools. This may or may not be true, a lot of the buttons and flashing lights scare the Troll so I leave them well alone.

In my opinion for whatever reason Malo has lost the love for it at the moment, it happens, but the best thing we can do is try to keep it going in his absence. This place has been here for me when I’ve needed an exit from shitty real life and we need to make sure it’s here for others, hence my less than “friendly“ approach to claims that it is “dead”.

Bastions of Law content is now live,

  • New BoL Palanite and Badzone lists are now available,
  • Older Enforcer lists have been moved to legacy,
  • Haunts and Prefectures are now supported,
You can find out how the prefectures work here!

We’ve tried to get this up quickly so you can use the new rules right away. We’re bound to have made some mistakes, so please report any bugs or errors you spot!

Hi everyone,

I am one of the developers of Munda Manager https://www.mundamanager.com and I wanted to add some context about our tool to this discussion.

First off, Yaktribe has been absolutely central to the Necromunda community for many, many years. A lot of us, myself included, ran multiple gangs and entire campaigns on Yaktribe, and I honestly do not know what I would have done without it. Yaktribe has played a huge part in allowing the community and the game itself to become what it is today.

The Yaktribe forum is also still going strong and linked constantly, and the Vault is full of pdfs and other content that would likely have been lost if it didn't exist. Over the years, I have been quite vocal on Discord when people were clearly demanding Yaktribe to be updated. I think it is important to remember that Yaktribe exists for all of us to enjoy, completely free and without ads, with a focus on the players. That is something to be grateful for. Yaktribe exists because someone chose to build and maintain it for years and, is still footing the bill constantly to keep it running, not because the community is owed a tool.

Munda Manager has similar values: providing players and arbitrators with a gang and campaign manager, building a friendly and welcoming community, empowering players and arbitrators, and respecting the huge amount of work that has gone into Yaktribe and other free resources we all benefit from.

Munda Manager also has a specific focus on:
  • Active development by a team of developers. Anyone can help out, as the project is open source on GitHub.
  • Full coverage of the current edition of Necromunda, including all gangs, campaign types, vehicles, alliances, resources, and content from Apocrypha and other books.
  • Strong support for custom content, including custom fighters, equipment, and campaigns. The goal is to make it easy to include house rules and homebrew without fighting the app.
  • Mobile-friendly design so players can update their gangs during games if needed. It runs in a browser and can also be installed as an app. Users can also print their gang sheets

It currently supports:
  • All gangs and variants (Genestealer-infested, Chaos-corrupted, Crusading gangs, etc.).
  • Full campaign management. Arbitrators can write their campaign packs directly in the tool and add their own images, such as maps.
  • Fighter progression tracking, including XP, lasting injuries, notes that appear on fighter cards, and backstories.
  • Vehicles with lasting damage, upgrade slots, and Gang vehicle equipment from the Apocrypha book.
  • Trading Post access, skill trees, and campaign or gang-specific mechanics such as Gene-smithing and Chem-alchemy.

In under a year, Munda Manager has grown quite significantly, with new content added on release day by a dedicated group of data admins.

This is not meant as a replacement pitch. Different tools suit different people, and Yaktribe continues to fill an important role for many players, thanks to its community and also for its unique support of old Necromunda. I am mostly posting here because this thread exists specifically to track alternatives and updates of other tools, and it felt like the right place to add context.

If anyone here has tried Munda Manager, I would genuinely love to hear how it compares to what you are used to, good or bad. If there are features you feel are missing or could be improved, that kind of feedback is extremely valuable to us.

Happy to answer any questions if people want more detail.

Thanks again to this great community.

Cheers

Thanks for the brilliant site, especially for doing lots of custom things. Really enjoyed using it, and it feels already like a very finished product.

So one thought I had was could you add a dice room element to the site? At the moment and in the past I've always used rolz for this (and it is great), but it would be better if the dice rolling could be part of a campaign manager too, so all players could see it in the campaign.

I guess the other thing is - we don't know how long yak will be available and would it be possible to have classic Munda (95, 03 and NCE) as part of Mundamanager?

Thanks a lot! Very appreciated! We're working really hard on it all the time, and we're glad it pays!

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! Yes, that's something in our backlog! However, we are trying at the moment to cover additional game mechanics, so this might not be a new feature for now.

We currently do not plan to cover previous versions of Necromunda. YakTribe already does this very well, and Malo has been footing the bill for years, so it is reasonable to assume it will continue for some time.
If that ever changes, we may reassess the situation. Though it also makes more sense to leave this to developers who are passionate about N95.
