Suggestion Neomunda integration into forums

I've never tried, but can multiple prefixes be selected? For example if you're discussing a comparison between NCE and N17?
No, single prefix for a thread.

If I was to duplicate sections (not threads of course) for N17, it would look like this:
  • Necromunda 2017
    • Gangs & Loadout
    • Scenarios & Tactics
    • Rules, Mechanics & Skills
  • Necromunda Legacy
    • Gangs & Loadout
    • Scenarios & Tactics
    • Rules, Mechanics & Skills
  • Necromunda General
    • Hire Lore & Background
    • Campaigns
    • Inquisimunda
I don't think I'd like forum titles to be duplicated as you'd only know which section you're in by virtue of the breadcrumb. If I was to identify each actual forum section, I'd need to add in "Necromunda 2017" before each of the titles making them all imo too long, especially for mobile. Alternatively, they could be renamed slightly but there would still be confusion.

With Prefixes instead/a;sp, that prefix is highlighted in the thread list and when reading the thread, moreso than the forum category. I can require prefixes for new threads and I can also select a default prefix. So for N17 forums, I can have N17 prefix the only one available and automatically selected, which would provide context to the user of which section they're looking at.

Additional thoughts? I'd like to decide what we're doing in the next couple of days to get ready for N17 launch.

i think the mandatory prefix idea is a good one. Would you keep ORB, NCE or make a new one for “Legacy”? And then there’s “General” for fluff... “GEN” or maybe the only blank one?

separate issue/suggestion: is there a way to mark a thread as “inactive”? For example, spikedog’s thread just got bumped a few times, but they haven’t posted anything in like 2 years. Something where you can read and like, but can’t comment. the thread owner can restart the thread when they return. that type of thing. It seemed like a couple people were excited to see what was new on the thread, only to be disappointed.

that's will be a very good idea

There should be one forum per topic type (e.g. Tactics) with one prefix being mandatory and multiple prefixes allowed if the topic is about several systems. This covers all eventualities but doesn't scatter similar content across several locations.

So the 4 prefixes for the versions and an All added as well.
it's possible to "force" to select a prefix before posting? that should could be a good solution
Yes it will require a prefix before posting. I can also select a default prefix but I don't think that's a good idea for these particular forums.

Hm.. I think in the long-term I'd favour separating the forums in that way. I assume the vast majority are going to switch over to N17 at some point (we're waiting for the outlander rules before we fully switch). Once the Legacy forums slow right down you can then merge those into a single forum to save space, where as if all the versions used the same forums then later on it might be difficult for the few lone stubborn scummers who still use the legacy rules to discuss them in a flood of N17 topics. If you forced the Legacy forums to use a prefix then you wouldn't confuse the identical forums by virtue the N17 forums wouldn't have any prefix.

I would go for #1 myself, but @Anthony raises a good point about long-term planning. It's possible that whatever we decide now might seem to be the wrong decision with hindsight, so which change would be easier?

That is, would it be easier to make separate forums now and later merge them? Or to use the same forum now and later separate them? (The prefixes will help, but remember old threads won't necessarily have them.)

It doesn't really matter, either way would be just as easy. I can merge forums easily but I can also split forums by virtue of prefixes. So later on if we split them (if we kept it as is), I could select all N17 threads to move to new forums.

Another factor is that many (including myself) use views such as new-posts or watched-forums to view new content, which makes the location of the threads irrelevant and a flood will still affect it.

True, I use new-posts a lot. So for this reason I'd suggest prefixes are helpful, regardless of where the thread is. And if we have the prefix anyway, there doesn't seem any obvious need for more sub-forums - though this can always be revisited later if necessary.
