New edition 2020

I'm quite surprised to see Brets v Khemri in a 'starter' set. The latter, in particular, aren't really beginner friendly. But maybe GW don't really expect many genuinely new players.

I think them being the launch forces for TOW means they have quite a few players for that. Maybe hoping for the players crossing over.

Apparently they've removed Wildly Inaccurate passes, which makes me wonder why they thought it a good idea to include them in the first place.

I'm curious whether TRRs will be back to one per turn again. A lot of people thought the change was GW doubling down on a mistake...

(Since this thread is for the 2020 edition, perhaps I'll start a new one.)

EDIT: I suggest discussion of Third Season carry on in the new thread:

They sure look cool!

Curious about the roster-changes.. What have they done with my Black Orcs?? :D Improved I hope..

If it's just minor tweaks, put out an errata, then put updated rule books in the new set. Easy.

Having to learn completely new rules (and buy new books) every 2-3 years is what eventually puts me off the majority of game systems.
Absolutely. Some of the reasons I dropped Farty K a long time ago /when 5th Ed dropped). Sick of new pointless stuff for changes sake. And then they come back in some later edition..

But this seems to be a decent level of tweaking so..

I know this topic moved to another thread, but gotta say, gamers are such funny folk. If a game doesn't get updates (new factions, new rules, new expansions), it's considered unsupported and on its death bed. On the other hand, if it does get updates, why that's just price gouging! As one who survived 17 years in the Necromunda wilderness, I don't complain about new stuff. OK, 30 new Necromunda hardbacks is perhaps, er, overkill? Still...just say'n!

If something is good I am fine.. Like 6th Ed Warhammer Fantasy Battles.. Still one of my favs.. And all is there.. Really good.. i can play it forver.. ;)

But yeah, seems like most poeple think stuff is dead if there is no new things.. But if it is good enough with loads of resources.. Look at Mordheim, it can thrive.. IMHO..

'Supported' can mean different things.

If the company are still selling the rules and the models, then I'd say it's still supporting the game, even if there are no new releases or updates.

(So, by this definition, something like Mordheim is unsupported, whereas Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago is still supported.)

True. But neither Mordheim not 6th Ed WHFB are "supported" and I am not bored yet.. ;)

I may be in a minority though..?

Yeah, I don't think being unsupported is a problem either. But still, I wouldn't call a game unsupported just because it's not getting new releases.

Ah I´m tired, kinda missed the point perhaps. But yeah.

I kinda meant I don´t regard a game dead and needed to be given up because there is not a constant new flow of nonsense, new models and nerfs.. i mean new Army Books.. ;)

Not played 40k since 5th Ed dropped and would not play anything after that.. yet I lvoe what came before..
Not sure that was any argument or anything.. Just.. Saying.. lol

That IS the definition of unsupported. ;)

It's a definition, sure. But I already indicated why I don't think it's a good one.

If the company are still selling the rules and the models, then I'd say it's still supporting the game.

If you can buy everything you need from the manufacturer, then they're still offering all the support that the game needs.

One other thing...the new edition boxsets are not strictly "starter" boxes. Might be someone's first BB purchase, like 2020 was for me. But, I immediately bought a another team box I preferred to BO's and Imperials. IIRC, Dwarfs. Then, came 3D printing, too. And the rest is history. Point being, the "starter" box is really a one/ first purchase way to get into BB. Or, update BB. Does not mean the teams must need be NEWB friendly. And, TK's and Bret's both make sense from the POV one is a Team of Legend, and the other "new." Teams that many established players don't have (I do have 3D TK's). I don't think there is duplicity afoot, here. Also, 5 years between update/new edition is not really flooding the market with a cash grab. For better or worse, it is indeed support.
