N18 New Escher player—hoping to get a fluffy but not crippled team going!

IMO, one of the best things about Escher is that even a fairly optimized list isn't generally considered to be OP or cheese. It's not like half your gang is T5 or you have two BS 2+ Lascannons w Overseer.
Take a look at this list and see if you find it suitable... it has 9 fighters, including 3 Champions.

Thank you so much for replying!

I am new so please bear with me on this, but I believe I'd need to drop both hotshots & the smoke reload before I could be able to do this as otherwise I wouldn't have enough credits just dropping the backup lasguns & the hotshots (total saving from smoke & hotshots=55 credits vs another lasgun sister=55 credits)?

Would an extra body really make that much of a difference, seeing as I would then only have two guns with any chance of stopping an opponent at range (the grenade launcher & the plasma), & both would potentially last just one shot (5+ reload & 6+ reload), leaving me two gangers just standing around with no way to contribute to the fight?

Speaking as a n00b, would I want to hang about & fight to the bitter end rather than bottle it if things are going that way? I know I've got some good close-combat threats but I am worried that they're not gonna get close enough unless I can put some people down early from range & keep them honest...

Apologies if I'm out of order & thank you again for responding.
Yup, both hotshots, smoke and backup lasgun to get the extra sister.

Yes, there is an implied risk with the big guns, but that ammo check is a 1 in 6 (don't have a dice to hand) and after the first game you will be able to earn creds even if you loose. Also, you are going to want to pin opponents, early on most aren't going to have nerves of steel or jump up so you are reducing their available actions.

You don't want to hang on till the bitter end, if you start getting hammered as the dice are sometimes want, it is better to keep your gang for the next game. Early in the campaign you are consolidating and learning what the others are bringing. No one net list can beat all the other gangs.

I would advise the extra ganger, but that is your choice. Kit can always be bought later, and you may get lucky with settlement rolls too, but don't count on them.

Thank you!

It was exactly this advice I came to this forum for!
