MKIII marines are being re-released to match the size of the MKVI ones, but they look a little slim the pic.

After all the Mk VI crap they've been peddling like mad since the start of 2.0, I can imagine more than a few legions not named Alpha Legion or Raven Guard that will appreciate having something other than beakies in the larger scale.

While I appreciate the Mk3 release, I've always thought the Mk5 Heresy armour was the coolest looking armour; if they get around to releasing Mk5 I might pick up a box to model some lost/excommunicate marines from a traitor chapter that have managed to survive, perhaps by becoming deathwatch grey shields, for a kill team.

Strange no-one has picked up on the other Nova Open news...

New 40k SM releases... I'm actually surprised that the scouts look, well, similar to their old sculpts. It looks like it might be a tipping point where we get "old" models updated, rather than releasing stupid named new squads that perform the same function. "Assault Intercessors" makes me feel like the untrademarkable "Space Marine" is slowly getting a name change.

I am wondering how space marines are getting this limelight, given that Tyranids supposedly won the Leviathan campaign and so their models should be released first - maybe I've not looked at their new releases, but then that's my point, as their releases must have flown under my radar.

New AoS stuff - personally, don't care. Maybe the ironjaw orks have conversion potential.

Horus Heresy - good to see a more historically available armour mark for people building their legions up, I suppose the dreadnought is a good addition (not another tank, yay!?).

WarCry - cool doggos and handlers, ogors...? Never really cared for them in AoS, not going to start here.

Blood bowl vampire team - looks nice, good conversion potential. I think I say that about most, if not all, BB kits...

Underworlds - yet another pump and dump starter set. Reasonable models, good for other skirmish games or maybe hero minis for AoS (or 40k in terms of the demons).

TOW - oh look, another single hero model. It's like the updates on a Kickstarter that will never actually deliver, but have to show something akin to progress to avoid a class action lawsuit.

Fulgrim - if you've got the cash, the skill, and the sheer patience for a model that big and detailed, fair play to you. Not my cup of tea, though.

Nova releases
Also new space marine scouts, in the Nova stream. Far better sculpts than the last lot, obvs. Plus jump pack dudes. But I am confused. Now we have jump pack intercessors what are assault intercessors and how does their role differentiate from Reivers?

Everyone I'm tempted to pick up a few Marines, Even as a painting project I just get confused by the Mess the SM line up is these days

You used to have assault marines without jump packs as well, they were just a tactical squad with close combat weapons instead of bolters. Ostensibly a cheaper alternative, at the expense of reduced/standard movement.

I guess intercessors and reivers may differ on their weapon loadouts? Special skills? Cost? Not up to date on space marines tbh.

GW might eventually straighten the range out a bit, especially since they're killing off firstborn; probably best to wait until 11th edition is out - given their increasingly shorter edition lifespans, it's not unreasonable to assume the geometric progression of a new edition coming out in two years.

What a surprise to see new scouts now that firstborn are to be killed off. Are these scouts lastborn?

These remind of the the assault space marines I had back in the day. The other type I don't remember exactly what they look like, but they didn't look like a new version of the classic assault space marines.

Ah, the Technos Fabricoligus Edna Mode must have been declared a Heretek.

NO CAPES!!
The STC for the tearaway fastener was rediscovered on Pallium Fluctus during the Fabricae crisis, capes have been declared allowed since then, though the Adeptus Astartes did send back a rather sarcastic note that they received these news a couple of thousand years late.

Back to models: I will probably be getting the Warcry CoS rangers, because they do look cool enough to merit painting on their own. I will as a matter of personal taste model proper tails on the poor dogs though, because docking is cruel.

I'm beginning to agree with those mentioning that these re-sized MKIII marines are just re-skinned MKVI ones. Found this in the Crusade & Heresy FB group:

Some major discrepancies in the redesign of the mk iii vs the HH lore & artwork

knee plates lack trim and are a changed shape
-chest plate lacks collar trim and the middle panel over the belt. Its now more curved, S-shaped
-waste plate seems missing?
-leg plates more flaired
-backpack vents are a different shape and have the studs in the wrong place, no longer at the point the taper begins
-foot covers seem to be a new shape
-elbow Armour has strange new circular attachments
-helmet ring trim is now early medieval and spine added
-prussian pickelhaube spike a la ww1 added to all helmets, previously only being a DG thing(?)
Edit: and apparently SoH
-Skull added to belt buckle for no apparent reason
-helmet lenses now have oval underside instead of angular
-Phobos bolter barrel now has a huge front muzzle brake hole, bigger than barrel diameter. Barrel front is more chamfered
-(Power fist is now a mk vi pattern)

I have to say I’m pretty impressed with this new Brettonian lady.

There’s a nice throwback to the original in the design, the sculpting looks sound, her face is especially good. Well, compared to their usual ones. Must’ve hired a new sculptor. Plus it’s got a very nice subtly done paint job.

All in all an impressive display piece.

Which is what it will probably be, as I imagine it’s going to be horrendously expensive as its resin. ForgeWorld resin to be precise, which is notoriously more expensive per gram than any other known substance to humanity.

Only sad bit is that anything over the size of your average human somehow gets warped, bubbled and covered in grease whenever they cast them up. So, should be quite the project to assemble.

Plus, in line with modern GWs foot fetish, no shoes.

Nah, paint job needed on the toenails for proper Tarantino style. Riding an unicorn makes her pure and wherever her feet touches the ground flower blossom just like with the MK character Cetrion.

The new Warcry human warband are great conversion fodder for Mordheim, and therefore a buy from me.

The Bretonnia damsel is one of only a few miniatures GW have made which I'll buy purely for the artistry of the sculpt. The only other one I've bought from GW in this category is the Blood Bowl star player Gloriel Summerbloom. The prime example of this type of sculpt for me, though, is Origenart's now OOP Siren, which is just an exceptional model.

Looking at that base she should get off the unicorn and walk about a bit then, it’s looking awfully patchy.

It’s a sculpt that looks like it’s designed to be attached to a nice polished wooden plinth and turned into a display piece. I think it’s one of the best, if not the best sculpt I’ve seen from them in a long time.

They do grotesque fairly well (because you can get away with things there) but most other efforts fall flat. This one doesn’t.
