New models incoming

I kinda miss the rainbow. But otherwise they seem pretty cool.

This does leave me well confused as to how the shape of the Secundus 'season's releases will go. I had assumed a slow drop of expansions each pairing one new Spyrer with another element that can be used in the dungeon crawl (new Patriarch, new gang hirelings, new scenery piece etc). Having them all in one shared sprue hit throws that out of window.
 
"They'll look better when someone other than GW paints them" strikes again. Apart from that, they're very samey - clearly left leg raised for a dynamic heroic pose is en vogue in the Spire this season. Duplicated bodies works reasonably in a gang of ten or so people, but a group of Spyrers with the same bodies with arm positions that puts said bodies on full display makes it stand out. Especially when the old ones were very different suits.

Unless of course you're never meant to have more than one or two in a game.

Necron references? I thought they were Tau technology.
When folks wrote the first (?) Tau splatbook, they stuck in these suit names as glossary words. When folks wrote the 40K ttrpg (Dark Heresy's Book of Judgement, the "Calixian Most Wanted" pages 106-107), the Spyrer hunting rig in Hive Sibillus (a Yeld suit, specifically) is said to be mostly Jokaero design, and a valuable relic - which also makes sense considering the fluff about Jokaero creations in the setting (a "Jokaero altered synth-skin suit" "Spire Stalker"). In this set, apparently, the designer was told explicitly to include Necron hints in the design, thus the coffin on the chest, and the lines of the suit parts?

But what they lack in numbers, they make up for in activations – of which they have two each per turn (for four actions per turn). The name of Helmawr will be whispered in fear once again…

So they’re going to get to do a few more actions on the table even though they’re less in number. I’m hoping they’ve at least learnt from the original version and not made them too powerful otherwise it just becomes miserable to play against, particularly in the early stages.

As for the colour - yeah, I’m not a fan of the non-metallic metal green they’ve gone for.

As always, the most interesting colour combinations will probably come from the community.
 
I can't say I like the spyrers but then I never liked the concept, so probably no surprise. Am also not a fan of the malstrain - they look a bit awkward to me. I don't care about Van Saar (probably my least favourite of all the house gangs), so the only bit i like is the new heads for the hive scum. Which at least means my pile of shame won't be increasing, I guess...

I hate the new Spyrers. I was a big fan in ORB and had a full gang of them that I enjoyed played. I liked the rules an visual differences in each suit. These look so generic as to be bland and unin'spired' (pun intended).

"Oh, let's make one suit with different widgets. They'll love that."

Not.

Then again I'm salty about Necromunda as a whole anyway, so take my opinion with some.
 
I agree the 3 Spyrer variants sharing essentially 1 body/pose does discard a lot of the OG's 'individual character' and the new metallic-green color scheme doesn't quite do it for me, but if this kit follows the same concept as all other Necromunda kits, it should be 2 bodies per frame and then doubled. if there are only 2 bodies per frame, we can expect there to be enough 'free space' there for all the equipment options on each frame, meaning plenty of bits leftover for conversion...
My current tentative plan is to get 1 box of these new Spyrers and use some of the leftover arms/equipment on other bodies (like Eldar, Van saar or Mechanicum Rust stalkers) to give each spyrer archetype a more distinctive visual identity and bring them more in-line with my own vision/interpretation of them.
For example the new Malcadon looks too scrawny/skinny to me, but it might look better on a slightly bulkier Van saar or Rust stalker body, but I'll need to get the frames in hand to properly compare and match-up the various bits.
It is an exciting conversion project, since they are the most 'super elite' gang in the game, you can really take your time altering each individual model until you get what fits you best :)
 
I like the aesthetic, though I would have preferred full-face helms. Really like the fact that all spyrer variants now have two different weapon options- makes them a little more unique and gives variety to the spyrer hunter gang. I'm interested in the cred cost for each, because they are basically two gangers with their two activations per turn (2 actions each activation), and how the two activations will work; will they activate twice in a row, or do they have two Ready tokens and are able to split up their activations however they like.



Pretty happy with the new look, it is modern but still has the high-tech flair of Spyrers. For me its a good-looking kit, even if I'm not super pleased with the green color scheme GW chose.

I'm glad they picked Van Saar to start this new set of revision/release set.

Starting with a gang that is already in an upper tier in the meta might mean later releases to other gangs can be designed with an extant decent power level to benchmark against, rather than using the weirdness of Goliath|Escher - two gangs that feel balanced* in direct compliment to each other rather than against other gangs. That is, if they haven't been designing game elements all at once...Not that balance is a thing to worry about in this game, but it's nice to see it when it happens.

*Balanced in that fast glass cannon vs tough slow gunners way, notwithstanding the cost issues with one-off Goliath genesmithing vs ongoing Escher chem outlays.

I quite liked the look of the Orrus, but seeing the rest of the Spyrers my opinion is now "meh" they used to be more visually distinct and characterful, whereas I actually had a hard time figuring out which was which from the Warhammer community article.

I suspect this is due to GW wanting to release them in one "kit" so you can build whichever ones you want from the same pack rather than releasing multiple separate kits, and I actually appreciate that, maybe alternate paint schemes might interest me more.

"the kit comes with four bodies"

Running through it like a logic problem, I think this means the kit will have three identical sprues each with one body, each of which can make a Yeld, Jakara or Malcadon (or combi), plus a different Orrus sprue. Which would be a nice, clear sentence to put on the site...

I read that as being the usual two bodies per sprue along with parts to create the Yeld, Jakara and Malcadon.

I suspect the Orrus to be on its own in the new box set.
