New models incoming

Stevepaintsandsculpts said this is one of his, but it’s been altered.
Altered by removing some of the testes, or by adding? [I kid! I kid!]

It definitely hits a lot of "body horror" notes. It just needs to be painted in "Film Noir" OSL, putting almost all of it in deep shadow.

... I wonder if, like Space Hulk, they will include a cat?

If they could just release those two, I'd be happy :(
There must be a 'not James Workshop' model on Etsy you can use as the Guilder from both. Give him all the equipment of the Pyro Lord and Master of Coin. Find a polo shirt wearing miniature or two, six unique heads, arm them appropriately and paint the Pyromagir and Skin Flint shirts different colors to reflect their regional gang manager status.

There definitely are, but the alliance miniatures have so far been absolutely knocked out of park by FW, so I'd really like them to finish the set.

If he was also commenting on design decisions, and suggesting his original designs were compromised / undermined by paint jobs etc (is he the same guy that sculpted the caryatid, and moaned the paint job ruined it), then i can see why GW might take exception.

There was a bit of a hullaballoo on Reddit, and Insta, between Steve and various ex and existing GW employees regarding 'attitude' and Steve's like of saying how (nearly) every model he did has been ruined by the paintjob and/or the sculptor who finished it. With him in the midst of a Kickstarter, or fulfilling one I forget which, he probably decided to cut his losses and avoid any negative 'press'

Yet another "purestrain" Genestealer for the Secundus Malstrain gang - or for Space Hulk. This one a "dramatis personae" fighter to be hired.

A one punch genestealer, who has been heavy into curls with one limb out of six.

GW are really struggling with what could have been such a cool concept. Every movie with "failed experiment in a jar" does the alien body horror aesthetic better than this.
True, but I see it more as an additional motivator/argument for sculpting/converting your own version/interpretation of the concept, rather than paying FW prices for 1 resin 'miscast' gene stealer :)

I also really don't like the models. I get that they are supposed to be warped versions of monstrosities, but they somehow look to me instead like bad / awkward sculpts. Which is going to make this new box set an easy pass for me.

I completely agree. I think the malstrains look pretty bad, bordering on silly. I would have preferred more of an "irradiated zombie" look on them with sores and burns and bits of exposed skeleton, combined with the mutations. Instead they look like they were genestealers crossed with overripe potatoes that are starting to grow stalks.

Well, I mean, Genestealers are ALL exposed skeleton. They are exoskeletal.
The spiders of Chernobyl don't have visible mutations like these, but do show very erratic web-building behaviour. But some of the other bugs in that environment have shown erratic physical mutations, and that seems to be vaguely the intent (if not always the effect) behind the genestealer models themselves. Not the "shock body horror" of the psyker wearing the Edgar Suit, but the initial genestealers, and this one.

They aren't my bag, personally, but I see the effect the sculptors are after.

As far as I was aware, Genestealers have an internal skeleton and exoskeletal armour. Not just an exoskeleton. I may well be wrong, but Gaunts and Genestealers definitely have skulls.

Wierdly, I think the existing Genestealer Abberants actually fit the theme of irradiated mutated Tyranid / Human hybrids better than the Malstrain minis.

I see the big Cash Wastes box is now “last chance to buy” on GWs website.

I guess it’s irrelevant now the rules are in the Core book, that other book and all the Terrain, vehicles and campaign books are out.

Next up: Hive Secondus.

Just release a separate two man Orrus sprue (assuming it actually is two) by itself three years from now and I'll be happy enough.
