New models incoming

Two very nice models there, not sure which book has their rules, what the point of them is or what the Narker is supposed to be (an informant??) Nark used to be prison slang for someone who’d sell you out to the authorities so I’m guessing that???
One is in the Book of Judgement, and gives a shift to the roll to choose scenarios, selling out your opponent's plans to you. The other is from the Book of Ruin, and give a handful of credits whenever anybody dies or is "retired." I'll let you guess which is which. Heh!

That said, the corpse broker does remind me some of the Forgeworld sculpt for the slopper. Appropriate moonlighting, I suppose....

And very nice sculpts both.

What I really want to see is a Baggit and Clodde set - Ogryn and Ratling criminal fixers.

Well, if they release any more novels focused on Baggit and Clodde, we might actually get them as a Plastic kit like Kal Jericho and Scabs either as a standard Necromunda release or maybe even as a Black library 'special release' (which would make them a bit harder to get, since those tend to be even more limited print-runs than the usual FOMO-inducing rates), so there is a reasonable chance we might see them within the next 2-3 years (am I being overly optimistic?).

About the new Hanger-on releases: Very nice sculpts/models with lots of 'character' but very limited utility rules-wise. That said, I could see a Corpse merchant working nicely for a majority Redemptionist gang (they need to be Outlaws to hire the Corpse merchant) controlling a Corpse farm (earn 2D6x10+D3x10 creds for every Bonepicker you get killed in battle) - it would be particularly appropriate for a gang following the Path of the Doomed: The end is Nigh, but at least we're eating good :D

I think that corpse broker and the slopper that was mention would make good hanger-ons for Ogryn gangs. Wait, can they get hanger-ons?

However (as always with the Warboss, must cast a critical eye on things) I’m finding this release giving me a sense of mild déjà vu.
Haven’t we had a fair few of those “big brutish looking guy with a skinny sidekick” lately?

As nice as these are it’s becoming quite… samey.

I didn’t like the mech-worm design but at least it was different. I’ll give it that.

Ogryns seem to be pretty common on Necromunda, eh?

The WGA zombie sprue:

There are absolutely loads of heads, but most seem to be period-specific. It means that you can have all of your zombies with, say, Napoleonic head gear.

However, unfortunately (in my opinion), there aren't many plain/generic heads. I'd have much preferred more of those, because they would still have been usable alongside the period ones. (Surely some zombies would have lost their hats. I'm sure they would still be fine with only 5 out of 6 in appropriate headgear.)

I still think I'll be getting some, and perhaps looking to kitbash them with other bits (including heads).

While I like the concept of the Heretek model shown, for me it has basically no relation to the rules of the Hanger-on it should represent (aside from the Gravgun).
I get the feeling this was intended to be a 'named special character Heretek' (like how Arachnos and Gunstein are named Rogue-doc and Ammo Jack), but they binned/forgot to write its rules... From that model I would expect it at least to have 360 line of sight and some melee weapon profile.
Besides, what's up with the non-descript Servo skulls and random tracked CAT unit (that currently don't have any rules in any of the 10+ Necromunda rulebooks/expansions)? Does anyone actually spend creds in their campaigns to get any of the Servo skulls and for those that do, would they really buy overpriced FW resin models for it?
Anyway, I don't mind the Heretek by itself, but I find the random 'servo pets' as overcosted 'padding' for the clam-pack, that should instead have been any other Hanger-on without a model.

That is weird indeed. Necromunda has no shortage of unique special rules to match any single surprise release. Either they forgot to add new rules (must be a first?) or the sales team writing the article didn't get the full memo.

I mean, I like the scu;pts. But (1) that melee weapon doesn't match the Heretek (who is really just a BS4+ Grav Gunner, when in extremis he ends up accidentally on the table), and (2) the C.A.T. is an old model, from later editions of Space Hulk, and not a new model. I think. EDIT: Looks like they have changed the shape of the tracks from the old model(s) to this new one.

They did get one thing correct though - while kind of crappy as a Hanger-On, the Heretek would make a decent leader to pull in to an Outcasts gang. Starting with Munitioneer and a Grav Gun (or Plasma Gun) for 40 credits isn't a bad idea for a Mastermind leader or a Wyrd leader (Willpower 7+ to start but Willpower is cheap in XP).

In a relative first for me, I'm gonna say I don't like it at all. The sculpt is well done and all, but the whole Master Blaster situation happening here is doing nothing for me. The servoskulls are neat, and the C.A.T. is alright, but overall I bounced off this pretty hard.

And I would like to underscore that this has nothing to do with my affiliation with the Mechanicus, which is tenuous at best.

Interesting.

Servo skulls seem like something that should be on a sprue somewhere, if they’re FW resin then they’ll be super fragile.

I have a few in plastic from old space marine kits so no interest in those.

That CAT is interesting, though it having no rules is… unusual. On their Instagram post he’s called Heretek and Servo Skulls.

The CAT has a skull in it, so are they just classing it as a heavy Servo skull or something?

The article directs people to Book of Ruin - the profile shown shows two guns and this fellow has one and one claw thing.

Most odd. Perhaps it’s a confusion of model and purpose as suggested. We’ll see.

Presumably each face has its own LOS??

The Book of Ruin Heretek is an Outlaws-only Hanger On, who has one gun (you choose between either a Grav Gun or a Plasma Gun), and the Munitioneer skill, but like most Hangers-On, never shows up on the table unless you are fighting with Home Turf Advantage as the Defender in a scenario. No melee weapons at all.

What you really get is a special rule hidden in its descriptive text and not as a listed Special Rule at all (which makes one question the existence of editors, but also question whether it would keep that ability if elevated to Outcasts Gang Leader, or really even just in the rules themselves, though intent is clear).

That ability allows them to once per scenario temporarily give a weapon Blaze, or Rad-Phage, or Shock, or Power, or Concussion. If it is a shooting weapon, then it also gains Unstable. If it is a Melee or Versatile weapon, then it also gains Reckless.

If it is a Blunderpole, presumably it gets both Reckless AND Unstable.

Since the Heretek will rarely see the table, the main purpose of that 40 credits is to give Blaze, say, or Rad-Phage, to some melee weapon. It does happen after Crew selection, so it has more flexibility to ensure it has an on-table effect than, say, spending 40 credits to just upgrade some specific weapon. Or perhaps the writers underestimate how unforgiving Unstable is as a weapon trait.

Anyhow. Rather than the powered melee weapon, a better choice for the sculpt would have been tinkering tools, allowing the surgically added gun-servitor to take care of the combat role. As a resin mini, changing out even just thr prongs on that melee fist seems likely to be fraught, to me.

I wonder how many of the (apparently) 157 published scenarios actually give you Home Turf Advantage??

Probably 6, knowing GW.

Calling @TopsyKretts - if anyone knows…
A quick word search in Necrodamus' 2024 edition suggests around two dozen out of 161. Each one of those, the Defender rolls 1D6 for each Hanger-On, and individually on a 4+ they are available for that fight. Statistically, not a lot of Hangers-On on the tabletop.

I find the model interesting. Will probably pick it up, if for nothing else than it can go in my semi-evil Rogue Trader retinue as the techy dude.

The CAT robot is really weird. Only rules it has right now are for 40k Imperial Navy Breachers, as a token that gives out a once per game Ignores Cover. I guess I can give it to my Breacher squad that currently doesn't have a CAT because I bought it off of eBay...

FWIW the Heretek is based on art from Dark Heresy, I think he's described as a 'Dark Mechanicum Heretek'

Presumably this picture (from the 40k wiki):

Bah I can't work out how to link directly to the picture but anyway it's on this page.

This model has strong "meant to be a character model but we haven't released the generic one yet" and/or "let's pre-hype mainline 40K Dark Mechanicus models via Necromunda like we did with the Squats" energy.

I am very interested in the latter - Dark Mech rolling around Necromunda dodging Van Saar "hospitality" squads, engaging in industrial sabotage and archeotech looting, presumably with underhive-environment manipulation capabilities reminiscent of the Cogitator Core Servitor's and nasty Radium weapons that hand out rad-based flesh wounds to anyone within 3" of firing...

It'd be cool if they gave us some variants to the Servo-Skulls.

There's so much more game design space they could explore with them beyond bioscanner+monosight, self-use medicae kit, and free 33% hitting autopistol shot accessible at Rare 12! The Harrier-skulls at least get decent pricing and rarity - though the rarity is weird for a glorified exotic pet chewtoy (you'd think they'd be less common given they literally hover around to get clawed at).

🎶Send in the servo-skulls,
the door opening/announcement vox servo-skulls,
the lamplight skulls,
the Inspirational-skill-equivalent-only-weaker morale-boosting music-playing skulls,
ammo-roll-modifying clip-carrier skulls,
chem-dispensing or side-effect-lessening skulls,
deeply-illegal magnacle-escape-assistance skulls...🎶

Either those claws are cosmetic and the 'tek is actually Quato on the back and the model uses its facing, or there'll be a set of rules to go-with that makes it a character we haven't seen yet.

We have a Squat book coming out soon, probably a Nomads after that. Maybe a Book of Ruin or Perils or Judgment revised edition for fourth quarter 2025?
