New models incoming

it's a marketing ploy, they hope people talk about it (like in this topic) creating a bit of buzz to convince doubting clients to buy it.

@MusingWarboss I think you walked straight into the pile of dogshi... their marketing ambush :p
I’m aware of that. Talking about it constitutes a form of viral marketing.

Problem is, I’m saying it’s looking like they’ve got a product they’re trying to hide until the last minute, which makes me think it’s potentially DOA and they know it.

Most will buy it for the models. I don’t care about the models so… no sale. 😁

they need to convince:
-stores/vendors (who will react on webtalk)
-new clients (who need accessible rules and visual cues)
-old fu... more mature, passioned hobbyists who will look for special hobby products / kitbashing materials

so I think the message is tailored to that to 'cast the net wide' and 'bring in the fish' :D

Well they won't catch a mermaid in these Dark Waters. :)
*groan* 😫

The only water we like round these parts is fluorescent!!

Get more blue-green algae in there, stat!!!

It would be nice but models are abundant these days, with GWs being the most expensive and increasingly kitbash unfriendly. It’s like doing a full 180° and going back to the monopose metals of 80s and having to hack them up and greenstuff together. Plastic is easier to cut but before you can you have to assemble the 8-20 piece jigsaw they come as!

I’d love to see more fun games, rather than the monolithic wargames all the time. Which is why I think skirmish and board games are really taking over.

Unfortunately all the Warhammer Quest games from Silver Tower onwards (and quite a few 40k box ones too) are one and done jobs and will be practically OOP within a year of release. Unlike most other board games which can be on sale for the best part of a decade or more.

@MusingWarboss; same here...
it's quite a puzzle to see what heads fit on what models... (with primaris, hero scale, all sorts of fantasy scaling and more realistically shaped models)

I bought a few Warhammer quest / underworld bits on amazon to kitbash into mordheim,
I think those boxes are bought up pretty fast for er... dekitting/reselling purposes if they still sold bits now

Most likely, they had a promo plan in place, but that got disrupted due to the fuzzy leak and they decided to have some fun with it. If that really bothers you then wait until the schedual promo campaign actually starts in some weeks or months.

Or just skip it entirely, since you seem so aggressively disinterested.

They showed the first hero:

I like him. He's a good mix of over-the-top and grounded. Kind of looks like what I imagine a Bretonnian would be like in the mortal realms. The helmet crest is a bit too big to be practical, but it's still AoS, it's proper crazy for that universe.

Now, one thing I will make fun of: His name is...something. Not Valoran, that's a standard high fantasy last name. Edmark. I feels like somebody had to come up with a name for their RPG character on the spot and slightly fumbled it. "Who are you, brave knight?" - "Me? Uh, I am, uh, Ed, no, Mark, uhm-" - "Ah, sir Edmark, welcome to our gallant party!"

Not a very balanced Helmet. On beefier modèle like chaos warrior it might work but not on that one . I keep thinking it's a very feminine model like it's a woman dress like a man a la Eowyn in lord of the ring.

It's simply too much decoration for me. That's being said I can understand the appeal especially if you had the board game Battle Master where the empire noble unit kinda looks like it.

Also his story make me think of Falstaff all bragging, can talk the talk but not walk the walk.

Very curious to see how it plays.

Well obviously 🙄

I said I wouldn’t be buying it. Same as all the previous not-WHQ random model boxes they’ve released.

I can still take the p out of their response whether you like that or not.

The name Edmark is bad because it mixes Germanic and Latin names. Ed or Ead means "fortune", like in the name Edward (Eadweard) or Edmund (Eadmund). Mark is a hypocorism of Marcus which means "consecrated to Mars". Latin names tend not to be dithematic like Germanic names so it sounds extra weird to drop a Latin name at the end. A better name would be Edmar. Mar is Germanic and means "famous" and connects the new character back to Volkmar the Grim from the Old World. Oh well, stupid names are common to this generation of designers and lore developers.

I like the model a lot except for the "S" on the shield, it ruins the flow of the coat of arms. Easy to fix with some green stuff.
