N18 New Rules Incoming

Apocrypha 16 - Coveted Cache pdf from WarCom was re-released some time as an updated version, fixing some obvious mistakes. Anyone know when this happened? Date says 2024-09-17, but as we've seen those dates are not to always to be trusted.

Edit: Comparing the 2 pdfs, only differences I could find were:
  • Correcting the Rage Unending bad D and Am stats.
  • Correcting the bad copy-pasted weapon name of Black Vomitus.
Doesn't look like anything else changed.

The new Venators, all fighters lose access to any resemblance of an equipment list after being recruited? When recruited, they can choose any items from Trading Post that are Common or Rare (8/10/11) or less. In addition, anyone with gang legacy (so not Ratlings and Beastmen) can buy stuff from their originating gang Leader's Equipment List. Do they have to choose between Leader's Equipment list or TP, or can they buy from both when recruited?

I read it as they can initially buy their (former) gang's house leaders weapons and wargear, and after that, they're stuck to the trading post

there's also the option to buy exotic gang beasts from the gang your fighter was part of, 'when' your purchase said fighter
and if the leader had a specific gang background the venator gang can get enhanced (territory) boons as if he's still in said gang.

this would imply: no escher chemstuff, no genesmithing, no orlock names, no Van Saar cybertechnika at gangcreation, not sure about Cawdor faithstuff

It LOOKS initially like on hire they have access to both Gang Legacy (if any) equipment list plus also Trading Post. Nothing in the gang legacy rule seems to eliminate the trading post rule.

And yes, after hire, gang fighters have NO equipment list as such, but only Trade post-battle action access to the Trading Post. A hard thing in Underhells campaigns, I think.

Cawdor acts of faith are a ruleset locked behind the Cawdor leaders’ special rules, so no acts of faith for Venators either.

Oh! The rule does use the word "either," so I see how that could be interpreted as meaning you can use only one of the two sources, rather than meaning that each item of their equipment must come from either one or the other source.
A Venator Hunt Leader may purchase weapons and Wargear from either an equipment list granted to them by
their Gang Legacy or from the Trading Post with an Availability Level of Common or Rare (11) or less:
Not great writing. The rest of the paragraph, being bullet points, then points out that after hire each leader can no longer get equipment from the Legacy list, and can no longer automatically get the rarity, which then implies they had access to both initially.
During the course of a campaign, a Venator Hunt Leader may be given additional weapons and Wargear purchased from the Trading Post following the usual restriction on Availability Level. Note that during the course of a campaign, a Venator Hunt Leader may not purchase additional weapons or Wargear from any equipment list granted them by their Gang Legacy.

I don't know what was actually intended, but 'either... or...' generally means not both. It would have been easy enough to say 'and' if both were intended. So, I think the wording suggests only one.

Thanks, nice to have your opinions on that. About the pets description, it is a bit superfluous as the pets are mostly already in the legacy leader's equipment list. Unless it's also intended to include prospect pets like Phelynx cat? I would assume not, wording was slightly unclear, not that it matters a lot any way.

they gave the sumpkrok as an example in the article, so;
-cybermastiff (Orlock 0-3)
-sumpkrok (goliath 0-1)
-cephalod spektor (Delaque 0-3)
-cyberarachnid (Van Saar 0-3)
-sheen birds (cawdor 0-2)
-phyr cats (Escher 0-2)

So you get your Phyr cats at the start and then you can have one of the generic pets. Hillarious to have 2 phyr cats and three giant rats attached to your leader.

Speaking of "new" rules, the gauntlet has returned in the latest apocrypha! This is at least the 3rd version (1st was white dwarf, then a bungled pdf variant). And for the first time as I can remember is this phrase included "and [attackers] may not deploy fighters outside this area regardless of any skills, special rules or Wargear they possess". A long awaited improvement that dozens of other scenarios that would benefit greatly from.
