Newbie guide to YakTribe

For a while I was one of those members who signs up.. then does nothing.. then once someone showed me how useful the gang creation side of things was - i was hooked..
BUT..

i want to add photos and Ive not been able to. I thought it was just a bad forum design layout until i started searching for answers and saw something about a 10 post limit to become a Juve from a New Member on the site.

well, I've now hit the 10 post limit but there wasnt an automatic switch to becoming a Juve.. so if I havent just completely missed a thread labelled 'Welcome' or 'Rules of the Yak' etc..then I propose there to be a simple thread pinned at the top detailing the basic ground rules.. maybe for conduct on the forums? - no slander, no name calling, pulling hair etc unless REALLY warranted for... swearing, nudity etc.. banned? keep it clean? or everything goes? and then.. maybe something outlining that you can sign up, like pics, post on threads and even create your gang but if you want to unlock ALL the features then you need to do this... this.. and this..

e.g
New Member - 0-10 posts?
new Juve - 11+ posts and must own original necromunda card terrain
ganger - 300+ posts and must own their own autogun
etc etc..

i dont know what the brackets actually are as Ive not been able to find the info so far.. thus thinking a few rules to avoid being banned and tips on what to do first.

luckily @spafe has already helped me a long a little - e.g. i should maybe check the dates a little better before reviving old threads so as not to anger any mods (not that Im suggesting you have short fuses... oh god im digging a hole for myself now...)

To be honest I think this is a great little idea. The forum itself is fairly easy with stuff like needing 10 posts to become juve so you can have an avatar and post pics etc, but also that the promotion isn't instantaneous. The code that checks for rank runs every... 10 mins? hr? something like that I remember malo saying.

@Malo , any chance of spilling the beans on ranks/stuff like that?

I know there is a vague little paragrapgh in the rules and terms section, but that's well hidden:

Suppose theres no harm in a something like this. Is it part of the signup email to confirm logging in? You know the 'Click Link to Activate' and then just say please view this 'Newbie' link or call it Juve Link

You currently have some limitations now you've signed up, with things like the gallery function, having an avatar and being able to edit your posts being restricted. Once you have reached 10 posts on the forum then these extra functions will unlock and you will achieve Juve status. Do not worry if this doesn't happen the moment you have posted your tenth reply, the forum script runs periodically (approx. xx mins) and will promote you then.

This is the main promotion that has effect, however once your post count reaches certain milestones you will rise through from juve right up to might ganger and beyond!

Areas of the site:

The Gang management tool is there to manage your gang, campaigns and battle reports. It is currently set up for necromunda with Mordheim and Gorkamorka being works in progress at time of writing.

The Vault is where you can find the rules, scenearios and other useful resources for the games. You can also upload your own fan made resources.

You can donate to the site to help keep it running under the Donate section (it's kind of in the name!)

Under the members section there is also a user map where you can see if there are any other members living close to you.

The forum is here to discuss Necromunda, Mordheim, Gorkamorka and Inquistormunda. There is a report button in the bottom right corner of every post in case you feel the topic is offensive or should be brought to the attention of a mod for any reason.

Some restrictions:

• No trolling
• No flaming
• No obscenity/pornography
• No derogatory terms (particularly those dealing with ethnicity or sexual orientation)
• No posting images inappropriately
• No spamming

I agree it's good to have all the various forum rules and guidelines in one handy place.

I recall there was some discussion a while back about 'NSFW' images (I don't mean pornography, but miniatures or artwork with a lot of skin on show), so this would be a good place to clarify what's appropriate (and maybe tell people to use the 'spoiler' function).

Also, since the OP alluded to 'threadromancy', that might be worth addressing. Different forums seem to have different rules here: some dislike bringing up old threads, even though it means new threads being created on old topics, while others prefer to keep the whole discussion together. (I'd say it's a contextual matter. Re-visiting an old rule debate or tactics article might be worth bumping an old thread, but there's not much point commenting on an obviously abandoned painting log or answering an old question.)

I think threadnomancy is a great practice - but need be approached with a specific mindset. If the last post was 8 months ago, and the post is "Cool pic", everyone gets excited that the OP came back to the project when they see the alert.

Another good idea would be to list off some well used acronyms, and mention that there is no harm in asking what something like IMHO means if you do not know. But the various tools for posts, hyperlink and spoiler especially, would be awesome to have little explanations on.

I joined the site recently, still learning all the bells and whistles, but just wanted to say thanks for putting some of this information together in one place. I was confused initially about uploading images and such and this discussion clarified it nicely.
