Nu Epic (Legion Imperialis)

But does this mean GW have finally made Rhinos that could feasibly fit in ten original epic marines?? 😁

I just noticed that yet again GW have gone for Mk6 beaky marines for a Heresy starter set. Its almost like they don't even know their own fluff. This makes the set only really useful to represent loyalist legions (plus Alpha Legion and maybe some SoH) during the siege of Terra.

Why not just do Mk4/5 marines and have them be useful for every single legion for most of the Heresy? /facepalm

Happily, STLs for 8mm Mk2 / 3 marines already exist. Yay.

I finished the SM contingent of the core box in seven days. This will the first miniature core box which will be completed painted in no time. Still undecided in what colour scheme to paint the titans. SA will receive Ash Scorpions colours.

I wonder if they were doing another nostalgia thing as original Epic was Beaky Marines (which makes sense as they were the current range back then). Then later on you got the more familiar mk7 style appear in Epic when that became current with 40k 2nd (and possibly Space Crusade as the Chaos Dreadnaught also appeared in Epic).

Not sure quite what the fluff was in that era now but as Xenos also appeared it probably wasn’t pure HH though I think it’s been retconned as such since.

I’ve seen those 8mm mk2/3 models being painted, it’s actually a good design for the size as you can get a decent look from a wash or contrast style paint on it without too much effort.

I've got the box set all assembled, along with a second set of Auxilia from the starter (given to me by a friend), a set of Baneblades, Kratos, box of Rhinos, box of infantry and Dreadnoughts, and 3 extra Predators. Tomorrow is supposed to be a warm (50s F) and sunny day so I'm going to prime my stuff and get started painting.

I recommend painting infantry when they are still on the sprues. Also it is wise to put any parts immediately in a box once freed from the sprue instead of letting them pile on the table. A sweep of your arm can scatter them to the floor and you don“t want to look for tiny parts on your carpet.

Yeah, I did prime the infantry on the sprue. I got all my Auxilia done today. Probably doing the Marines tomorrow as it's supposed to be nice again.

As for assembly, I do it in stages so no parts pile on my desk. :giggle:

Now look what you’ve done.

LI Solar Auxilia Ash Scorpion Infantry coming up:

To counter the bland state of the uniform theme (depressive grey) I had to put some effort in specific key details such as the power weapons to make the minis pop just like I do with my beloved Iron Hands. In fact the weapon glow has as many steps as a 30K/40K mini which was a pain in the butt to pull off although it was worth it. Love the scorpion icon as it reminds me of NOD from Command & Conquer.

I started on my Salamanders. I have in progress: 1 sprue of infantry, 4 Dreadnoughts, 4 Rhinos, 3 Predators.

I got the base green figured out and applied along with the wash and drybrushes. Now it's on to the details. And those tiny models have a surprising amount of detail.

In other news, did everyone see the WarCom article yesterday? Titan armies.. yeah. More incentive for me to paint all my Adeptus Titanicus minis!

If only I could decide on a Legio.. 😭

Just want to add my $0.02 to that...

Epic started out as Adeptus Titanicus in 1988, which was titans vs titans during the Horus Heresy (sound familiar?). Then Space Marine was released in 1989, this was marine on marine during the Horus Heresy. Eldar & Orks (and some Imperium stuff) were added to Adeptus Titanicus via an expansion called Codex Titanicus (basically a compendium of White Dwarf articles, the Eldar were in WD #110 for example, as was the way back then). Orks and Eldar also have a few pages in the background section of the Space Marine 1st edition rulebook.

No retconning has been done as far as I can tell, having looked into 1st edition Epic when I was looking for an edition to start with for my now stalled Epic collection idea, it's all Horus Heresy for 1st edition Epic.

Space Marine 2nd edition (1991), technically Epic 2nd edition was when it was moved into the 40k era with all the xenos/Chaos etc. of the time present, albeit again via expansions, although Orks, Eldar and titans were in the basic rules. Titans were further expanded on with 1994's Titan Legions.

So, looking at it, Legions Imperialis is technically a reboot/rehash of Epic Space Marine 1st ed, plus titans/knights etc. from the Adeptus Titanicus reboot (and they have new rules apparently), but without Orks/Eldar or any other xenos, no retconning though, GW just seem to want to keep it focused solely on imperial vs traitor.

At least you guys know which Legio you're painting. I can't decide between the War Gryphons, Fire Wasps, or Warp Runners.

@Tiny I hope you feel better soon.
