One Page Rules?!

Greetings fellow Yak Tribers!

So, I've been watching OPR develop for quite some time now, and enjoy the Grim Dark Future Firefight as a Killteam alternative. I've also been working on getting my kids into miniatures with the OPR Fantasy Quest beta (and they like fantasy games in general).

I think it's a great system overall, near enough to what we all know and love from the Big Games that inspired it. Given our love of the smaller specialist style games and models to support them, I figure it might be an interesting system to explore here.

What I've really enjoyed about OPR's growth, is how it is no longer entirely dependent upon the parent game systems factions. In Grimdark Future for example, they have added Jackals (which started out as a Kroot stand in... but have now evolved into a very distinct and interesting faction) and several others that are entirely distinct from their inspiration.

I've downloaded tons of rules, for everything from skirmish to big battles, fantasy to sci-fi, but have yet to play a game. I hope I can convince the eldest to play a game of firefight in the near future, although he is on a bit of a pc-gaming track atm... But he has been talking about kill teams, so maybe!

if he's a fan of any type of strategy games it can be a pretty easy sell, what my friend did that worked for getting me into tabletop games was showing me some models that looked like/were painted up in schemes from games I loved (starcraft, halo ect). Might also be an idea to see if there's minis you could use as stand ins from games he plays, I know I would have loved some marines and a siege tank when I started.

Very much a fan of how simple the system is to pick up and then the rules 'get out of the way' and let you focus on the tactics and narrative of the battles. :)

Playing GrimDark Fire Fight to originally learn, and the we got in 3 games in the space of 2 hours. Whilst looking up and refreshing on rules as the person teaching was relatively new as well. But there is enough meat there to make an enjoyable experience on the game table.
