Photobucket commits business suicide

Thank you! Everyone's donations are always very much appreciated. Really loving building the new server, returning to my roots where I always built and managed my own servers.

My new hypervisor host just released server objects which will work really well for images instead of using block storage. I'm hoping the specific addon I need to support it will be updated soon to allow DO object storage.

I'll try :)

File storage is your standard file system on your local computer. You have a set size of hard drive and files and stored and retrieved locally.
Block storage is a block of data allocated on a remote network device called a SAN (storage attached network). You assign X amount of data to the host and you proceed to store and retrieve files on that block of storage. Once you fill up that block, you need to expand it further.
Object storage works very differently in that you're storing and retrieving the file on a remote system like a SAN but you're not pre-assigned a specific amount of space, it's completely dynamic and grows to your needs.

From a pay-for-storage perspective, the object approach means you're paying for what you use, rather than say paying for 100Gb allotment of block storage and gradually filling it up. Each has it's own pros and cons from a scalability and performance perspective as well. You don't want to store hundreds of thousands of small files used by an internal application as objects, it would perform horribly. But storing large images to be retrieved upon demand is a perfect use and the costs scale per image file size.

The issue with Google Drive is that you can't link directly to the images you store there, so you can't imbed them in forum posts for example. You can only put in a link to a page which has the image on it.

Fine for storage, useless for hosting, unless there's some work around I haven't found.

Sorry if I spammed anyone's notifications - I just spent an hour or two trying to fix the links in my thread by setting up new galleries and embedding the pictures. Screw photobucket ($399.00 a year? pah!)

You don't need to do that. This will be resolved on the new server/site automatically.

Another Forum that I'm a member of was hit with this $#!+ too, but there is a way around it. With the Photobucket pictures not showing; if you go into edit post and insert ~original between .jpg and [/img] as in .jpg~original[/img] then the original picture will show

Found this on another forum:

"If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, click on extensions. Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions." In the search box, type "Photobucket Fix," and hit enter. Click the install button and once it's done, you should be able to see photobucket pictures again.

For FireFox users, click on the three bars on the right side of the screen, then click on add ons. Click search for "photobucket hotlink fix" and click install. Same result."

What, @timdp, nothing for Safari?!?

and welcome back, or have you been lurking?

Just posting what I saw. Might be one for Safari too?

Mostly been gone... Have been real busy with house stuff, Santa Rosa fires and Wasteland Weekend (Mad Max in the California desert for five days) stuff. We built a Fury Road car and took best in show out of 135 cars. I think we are ready for live action Ash Wastes or Gorka Morka.

I looked through a few the earliest Miniatures & Miniatures pages after loading the fix and did not find any Photoshop logos...
