Pillage: Ransack the Middle Ages.

They look ace!! šŸ˜

Do you have a copy of the rules? Does it state if buildings need area bases or if the roofs can come off to allow access?

If it was standard Warhammer style buildings, or even SAGA, I’d be tempted to add basing to add things like shrubs, barrels etc onto to give a lived in look. Also helpfully adds weight and protects edges.

For Pillage though I’m not sure (as I haven’t read the rules) whether those things should be separate so they can be… err… pillaged.

How do you steal a barrel? Does it get taken around next to the miniature who nicked it? Or do you just loot and mark the captured treasure somewhere??

So many thoughts - plus these upcoming plastic sets from Victrix look so good!! I’ll post the latest religious relics update - they look nice and lootable too.

They don't need any particular base area and can have the roofs come off for figures to go inside if you want, or you can just track whoever is inside each one. Just be aware that they can be set on fire and anyone inside will likely meet a rather toasty end.

Anything that can be stolen should ideally be removable, although you can always just make tokens to represent that. Barrels, large chests etc can be searched so you'll need a few tokens to represent found goodies. Those loot bits look ideal. I've got a bunch of Mantic chests etc I painted up for D&D so they'll be grand, along with some Warlord animals.

I'm tempted to add some small bases with a few bits on them. Maybe some firewood or a bucket for example. Nothing too wide that it takes up a large area. Although the pig house will need some kind of pen area. Being cardboard they might be damaged in transit.

36 seems like a large number for Pillage.

Though for a 500gp game as Irish, Scots or Picts you can go all out and get 45 basic guys with free spears (if you want your chief to have a hand weapon and shield). 25% of those guys get free slings or javelins 😬

"This is interesting... There appears to be a large, orange hedge moving towards us."
"Oh that's not a hedge, Consul. That's the Scots."

Yeah, it gives you plenty to make a bunch of options though. Going to build some with each different weapon option, couple of armour options etc.

Didn't think of making any with the free "improvised weapon" until now. I may also have gone overboard making 5 bowmen and 2 slingers.

Just tallied up what I have so far. Assuming 3 of them are used as Berzerkers (bear skins and decapitated trophy guy), comes to 540 Gold not including any Talents for the Chieftain. Maybe 36 is a few too many after all. :ROFLMAO:

A little annoying that the Viking sprues come with so many armoured bodies. I'd have liked a few more unarmoured dudes. Although I did mix in a sprue of Rus which are all armoured so probably my own fault, and Vikings do get cheap armour compared to other factions so not a massive issue.

I also realised there are no rules for a pair of hand weapons, so those guys will just count as having one hand weapon. Shame.

Just thought I’d add in a link to Wargames Atlantic’s ā€œBarricadeā€ box of plastic - everything is separate so you can do with them as you see fit.

Looks very useful - generally - for fantasy or historical games. Ideal for Pillage too.

After flicking through the factions, iv made the decision to follow the path of the Picts!
My guys are going to be a bunch of wildmen, living amongst some Roman ruins and raiding Dane settlers as much as they can, plus anyone else who strays too close to their sanctuary!
I’ll be using Victrix naked Celt fanatics as my core, but I’ll be giving them Viking beards/helmets and arming them with the axes of the enemy!
I was going to wait and get the new kit, but I think this’ll be funnier!

Just looking through the book and noticed:

A figure with a ranged weapon can also be equipped with a hand weapon and/or a shield. This equipment can only be used in melee. In all other situations, the shooter is assumed to be too busy wielding their ranged weapon to make use of their other equipment.

So it's either a free spear, or a free sling / javelin. Not both. Which probably makes sense.

Still probably a bit broken to be able to take 45 dudes with free gear vs 10-12 in another warband (remember Scavvies with free clubs in ORB), but that's why it's meant to be a narrative WYSIWIG game, not a power gamer game.

SO IT BEGINS!:

These guys are all going to get deshielded, most are going to get beheaded, and I’m going to sit and contemplate whether I should paint some Conan underpants on them!?
Here’s my stash of Viking bits they’ll be absorbing:

Going to go for a even mix of weaponry, but I definately know I want to give Chieftain Dangerous a big Viking axe, and will be handing out a handful of crossbows!
I’m also making sure I have one or two with only swords as I’ll want some dogs, but I’ll get a grasp of the rules first.

(They’ll be painted flesh tone, don’t worry)
(Or do worry!?)
(Is this a bad time to mention they were a gift from my mother in law!?!?!)

They were still on the sprues when she gave me them šŸ˜„ (and had no idea they had their teeny weenus’s out) šŸ˜„

Thought I’d grab one last pic of papa smurf before he becomes chieftain dangerous, the last of the smurfs!

(It would have been way easier just buying a new set!)

-Warrior 10 + warhorn 30 + Improvised weapon
-2 warriors 20 + crossbows 50 +shields 20
-3 warriors 30 + hand weapons 60 +shields 30
-3 warriors 30 + spears + shields 30
-3 warriors 30 + spears
-3 warriors 30 + javelins
-6 warriors 60 + improvised weapons

600gp (pillage, massacre, landing)

-Chieftain 30 + Dane axe 25 + force of nature 30 + lewd provocation 5
-Warrior 10 + warhorn 30 + Improvised weapon
-2 warriors 20 + crossbows 50 +shields 20
-3 warriors 30 + hand weapons 60 +shields 30
-3 warriors 30 + spears + shields 30
-3 warriors 30 + spears
-3 warriors 30 + javelins
-4 warriors 40 + hand weapons 80
-2 warriors 20 + improvised weapons

(Gotta love copy and paste!)
So basically, in the bigger battles, chieftain dangerous starts howling, and he makes the mooks sharpen their axes!

Iv got most of them made, but I’ll wait until they’re at least undercoated before taking a WIP pic.
Let’s just say there was a slight miscalculation in scale between the Vikings and celts kits I.e. think bobble head (but I kinda like it)

I was in two minds about giving them Conan leather hot pants, but I’m making a compromise and only giving them to those with shields. It’ll help to remind me which armour type they are I.e. if I can see cheeks, they are 1 inch faster and a little more squishy!

Where is chieftain dangerous I hear you ask:
