Pillage: Ransack the Middle Ages.

Getting it to look right was a bit of a pain. Much trimming and combing and soaking with PVA to get it to lay flat. The painting was simple once the fur was hardened with PVA. Spray cans of brown and desert yellow, followed by heavy drybrushes in bone and white.

I've been playing with list building before starting to assemble my Saxons so I have a vague plan. Something along these lines should be fairly flexible:

Fighter & KitCostAvail.TakingCost
Chieftain, FA, HW501150
Bannerman, SA, HW, Banner751175
Hornman, SA, HW, Horn501150
Huscarl, SA/FA, DA & HW7533225
Armoured Spearman, FA, Sp252250
Armoured Swordsman, FA, HW3066180
Spearman, SA, Spr204480
Swordsman, SA, HW2544100
Archer, UA, Bow3544140
Slinger, UA, Sling122224
Cavalry, SA, HW, Horse6022120
Lancer, SA, Spr, Horse5522110
32321,204

HW is Hand Weapon
DA is Dane Axe
Spr is Spear
UA/SA/FA are the armour levels.

In Excel I can update the Taking column to build my force from the models available (love a good spreadsheet). The spreadsheet is also quite easily updatable for different factions if anyone's interested, just plug in your own faction's costs/restrictions on the Price Lists tab.

Horses? They’ll never catch on! 🙄

They come in the kit, it'd be a waste not to build them even if I never take them (I don't think Saxons even used cavalry - iirc horses were for getting to the fight they they'd dismount for the killy part). It was those dirty Norman types, comin' over 'ere with their la-de-dah horses, hitting people without dismounting... disgusting behaviour.

Historically speaking, what's the biggest differences between Rus and Vikings? They look very much the same.

Vikings - Vikings.
Normans - French Vikings.
Anglo Saxons - English Vikings.
Rus - Eastern European Vikings.

They're basically all just Vikings. They got around, integrating with everyone and in many cases taking over. They whole time period is essentially the Viking civil war.

The minis actually mix really well. I added some Rus to my Vikings for variety. As long as you avoid some of the more esoteric looking hats they fit in perfectly.

I just ordered a bunch of sprues to make a Breton Warband. A mix of Norman warriors and cavalry, the generic archers and slingers, and some early Saxon unarmoured warriors for more unarmoured bodies. With Norman hats on the Saxons and round shields on the Normans they should fit right in as Bretons.

Thinking lightly armoured spear / javelin / sling horde with some unarmoured skirmishing cavalry, and a few armoured leader types on nags.

Today I pillaged (hur hur) a fistful of coffee stirrers from Costa to use as wood framing for houses. Assuming @ClockworkOrange isn't printing us all a whole dark age township complete with church, castle and assorted dwellings from his 3D printing empire.

I would never do that. I certainly didn't accidentally grab extras at Gregg's the other day...

Do you know about Clever Kobold? Down the road from the citadel. They have open play tables.
