N18 Pistols in close combat

Please settle a debate my group is having - can you use two pistols in close combat? Rules seem to say you can pick your weapons including melee or sidearm. But the other rule about pistols in close combat suggest you can allocate one attack to a pistol (sidearm) then any other attacks must be allocated to a melee weapon. If none available they must be unarmed attacks. Can someone please clarify? Sorry if this has been asked.
 
You may fire a pistol once. Should you have two and you have two or more attacks in the fight you may fire each pistol once. So a stubgun and a auto pistol may be fired by your gunslinger, using WS and both may run out of ammo. However you only get a single hit from any rapid fire pistols and no pistol has the paired trait to gain further shots so all other attacks must be melee or unarmed
