Necromunda Pre-Delaque/GW5/Compendium Release Ramblings

I kinda feel like Van Saar shouldn't have a monopoly on spider imagery, this is Necromunda after all.. It seems to me that a sneaky spider skulking at the heart of its web, ensnaring its prey with nigh-invisible strands etc, is a pretty Delaque way of doing things  Snakes are good too tho, I'd be up for a robot snake, not cos Delaque are particularly techy (tho to be fair they're into all their spyware and sneaky gadgets) but just cos it's more sci-fi, would be a more interesting model and there's already plenty of living critters around..
Because it’s their House symbol and they already got a mechanical spider pet? Like come on, another mechanical spider is just not going to happen. It’s like one of the ONLY things in this thread (pun intended) we can be sure won’t happen.

Surely Delaque will have a snake themed pet of some sort. Just wish they'd hurry and show us what the new gang is going to look like lol.

Lol they showed off a slaanesh daemon which probably won't be out until jan/feb. But Delaque is out before christmas and is taking forever to just get even a sneak peek at art/models. Well I guess spiel is in 25 days, that's still a good 3-4 weeks away. GW is releasing way too much good stuff. Between the warhound titans, nightvault, delaque probably in november, just madness...i'm gonna have to just try and forget about some of these releases.

Going to pass up on everything except WHQ40k and decide between delaque and cawdor at the end of the year.

If we knew redemptionists and ratskins were def. In the works I might even hold out longer. Sorry a power point slide 8 months ago confirms nothing for me, we still haven't seen ambots or dump crocs yet.

Well yes what you say is true, I was just sayin' from a background point of view, why should this be so? I'm sure any member of Van Saar would walk right up to a member of the Necromundan Spiders regiment in a bar and call him a faker wannabe..

Because the writers of the fluff wrote it so? Yes Necromunda's imperial guard regiment is called 'The Spiders'. I don't know if Necromunda's heraldic symbol is the spider even, but regardless that sort of thing don't seem to actually mean much in at least European heraldic traditions, which I assume that the writers were inspired by. Look for instance at Venice, which heraldic symbol was the Lion due to St Mark being their parton saint. This didn't mean that the noble houses of Venice all of a sudden started sporting lions to represent their houses.
Then we have the fact that the writers probably prefer to keep the different houses easily distinguishable between each others. Although a single Delaque gang or ganger might call themselves 'The Spiders' - this is your prerogative as the writer of your own fluff.
I don't know if this adress your question?

Uh, one Necromundan IG regiment (the 8th) is called “the spiders” not all of them. It’s also certainly not the only regiment raised on Necromunda because only agri-worlds get away with only having one regiment. Given the population numbers for Necromunda, there’s nothing particularly preventing the 8th from being recruited entirely from Van Saar holdings. Heck, with a population of a couple billion in Hive Primus alone, Van Saar could support several regiments without really noticing the loss, as could all of the other Houses, including the Nobles.

Good ideas! Or it could be retcon to have been led by a VS.

It ought to be some kind of spook-enhanced bald sneaky spy snake then. Can't match the house identity more closely than that!

Ha Voldemort?

What if they go Game of Thrones on us and they are all like Varys?

Sooo good! He was a gang fighter once too :D

But OMG, there must have been a 90s thing for shaven-headed sneaky spymasters... But if Delaques are Varys, then who are they meeting in the basement of the hive/red keep? :D

Although certainly old fluff, there's precedent of multiple Necromundan regiments from various gangs. The famous Necromundan 8th Regiment are, allegedly, drawn from the Spider Clan of Hive Palatine of Necromunda.Considering they're the 8th, I'd suspect there's at least seven more, and probably much more than that.
There's also this charming old infograph which includes Necromundan Van Saar as useful Imperial Guard conscripts:

I also like how many weird regiments this contains, and how many now-iconic regiments show up.

As a sidenote, Necromundan regiments can lead to fun Only War characters as well, all things considered.

The Classified one looks like that Delaque picture GW showed a while ago

Anyone else hoping that in the new Gang War book they fix up Juves costing/xp/advancements so that they become viable... I wonder if they can tinker with their advancement similar to the original system (where if they survived they could potentially become your strongest members of the gang). At the moment the sheer amount of advances and costs of the advances (if they ever survive this long injury free) makes them very hard to justify.

Hopefully they can introduce some kind of spiraling expenses or gang rating tax system in the campaigns to keep power creep in check (perhaps an equipment maintenance fee where you income is modified by your numbers/equipment levels/etc).

I like the idea of special/heavy weapons incurring a maintenance fee, actually - that would actually encourage people to stock up on basic weapons/gangers, and use special/heavy more sparingly.

Thanks @Zae55, adding that idea to our houserules block, roughly titled 'how to stop Overwatching Plasma Cannons from ruling your hive'

Juves are viable. if they survive the turf war they become specialists and follow the same system as champions and leaders im not sure if their rating increases or not though when they are promoted

Juves become Specialists after a Turf War? What 'system' are you referring to that is the same as Champions and Leaders?

Not quite. Juves are promoted straight to champions, and because advances raise cost will often end up being more "expensive" than a freshly hired champion. You don't have to pay any extra credits for them but they will bloat your gang rating more.

Also of note, a Juve can only become a Champion if they have at least 5 advancements. Even without paying the tax that's still quite the amount of XP and it means they will end up with an overall worse profile and higher rating than a freshly hired champion. Since of all this happens before you reform your gang for the next turf war, it's likely that everyone but the top dog (who gets more credits to play with) will feel incentivized to let go their bloated juve and keep their regular champions (or hire new ones)

As Thorgor said, they dont advance to champ status after turf war until they have 5 advancements. At that point, although their existing cost and stat line remain as they are, any advancement they gain do incur the the +2 XP cost per existing advancement, as they are no longer Juves.

Juves do have some advantages over regular gangers in that they can pick their xp advancements as champions and leaders do, where the gangers are gaining random xp advancements until they become specialists. This means you can simply choose not to spend xp to give them 5 advancements. Only gangers are forced to gain them automatically when they accrue 6 xp.
