Punktaku’s adventures in Samurai Kid dagashi

Today’s grab into the bag is yet another Doraemon stick. This one is Nori and Salt (seaweed and salt). It looks funky, as the puff is covered in green flakes. But it’s pretty good. I give it 3 Zim’s.

This wasn’t in the Samurai Kid package. We saw it in the grocery store and grabbed one. I didn’t realize at the time it was a make it yourself kit. It’s for kids, so there’s no baking involved. My second oldest decided it would be fun to make them with his youngest siblings, so they gave it a shot today. It makes four “donuts” and you decorate them yourself. The kids had fun, and the end result was very much like a gummy candy. With frosting and sprinkles.
I give it 2 Zim’s. The texture was too gummy without being “gummy.”

Cinnamon apple pie! Looks and smells like all the other ones, but is definitely sweeter! The Apple is very subtle, but you can definitely taste the cinnamon. I’ll give it 3+ Zim’s (but it’s not quite a 4)

Baby Ball Cookies it says on the packaging in English. Online I found them as Tomago Boro (egg balls?). They’re weird. Very crunchy, but they almost turn chalky once broken. At first they taste like nothing. Air? water? Then you notice they’re sweet. Then the after taste gets you. It’s not horrible, but it’s not good either. Didn’t even finish the pack. English ingredients say they’re mostly potato starch. I’m gonna give them 1 Zim.

Your description of the texture and flavour sounds a lot like a Rusk (early development biscuit for babies here in the UK). They're hard until you bite a bit off, then they turn to mush. It's to help prevent choking.

That might help explain how odd they are, though they look tiny which in itself would be a choking hazard, so who knows?

Ah!! I know what you mean. We have something called arrowroot cookies for babies.

But yeah, If you don’t bite and break these (definitely requires teeth) they’d be a choking hazard for sure. My oldest daughter (8) tried one, and was not impressed at all.

These are like Sugar Smacks cereal. Although I think they’re now called Honey Smacks? Anyway, the coffee flavor is very mild (which is great as I don’t like coffee). The graphic on the back suggests that they’re good with milk, too. Just like cereal.

Edit: I forgot! 3 Zim’s.

Certainly look like Sugar Puffs (which I think are called Honey Puffs in the UK now too), presumably the same things as Sugar/Honey Smacks.

Fun Fact!

Sugar Puffs (Now Honey Puffs) did some sponsorship work with the 1960s Doctor Who Dalek movies.

You can see a bit of discrete advertising in the backgrounds.

Ah yes, my first experience with substance abuse. By the time you got to the bottom of a big bowl of these, the remaining milk had turned into a substance I considered the food of the gods when I was a kid. The effect was a bit more like cocaine, according to my mother.

The Easter bunny brought this to my son. It tastes a bit like cantaloupe, and is a pale orange. I don’t know the first kanji in the word bubble, but I think I translated the rest ok…. “Even if it’s ____, it’s okay.” @Zugg Zugg ?

Hito to chigattemo iindyo
It means it's okay to be different.

Kit Kat series in Japan is all about sharing with friends so each packet has a message about friendship on it
