Hello, I am going to show this game (NCE) to my wife in a few days. She is interested in the game, but doesn't really like the aesthetics of the gangs models as they are (both new and old). I was wondering if there were other options to proxy gangs that would fit the genre and allow a certain standard to easily identify and separate weapons.

She'd like female figures, but not really down to Escher style so that's gone.

I did check raging heroes but it wasn't a hit either. Any ideas welcome!

The good news is that the game is really very "miniatures neutral." That is, it is really easy to once you find an aesthetic you like, find a gang that thematically suits that aesthetic. Really, and truly.

Though that does mean that random suggestions of miniatures on our end might not prove particularly useful. Better to find out what sort of aesthetic she DOES like - whether GW miniatures or not - and work from there. This crowd are likely to do better at finding a good rule-set to match a selection of minis, than to guess what aesthetic a player they don't know might like.

And remember, really, ANY gang can be some, all, or mostly women. Escher isn't the only.

Does she prefer
More modern-realistic? Look at Cyberpunk minis of various sorts by various sculptors.
More post-Apocalyptic? There are a whole lot of Fallout miniatures available these days.
1990s cartoons? There is a skirmish game of Masters of the Universe, with He-Man, She-Ra, and Teela, and company.
And if you find a local-to-you who will 3D Print resin minis, there is a whole universe of printable miniatures on Thingiverse, Cults3D, and MyMiniFactory.

Plus, have a very brief browse of
just to get an idea of the scope of alternatives.

You're right, my post was a bit silly :)

She likes the Danger Gals from Cyberpunk Red Combat zone, for example, and some random models from infinity. She likes things like Kingdom Death and cyberpunk 2077 and Aliens. My trouble is to find the right mix to port this into the NCE and have it not too complicated to identify who is armed with what.

perhaps some conversions here may be close to the style she likes

and this guy has a conversion style that's a bit different from the traditional look, sometimes based on Eldar

PS; I've seen cat-ear girl heads on Etsy before,

edit: the Van Saar may fit her aesthetics more?

If you are going NCE, then tbh, as long as you can get your hands on lasguns and boltguns, you are fine. las/bolt weapons are iconic in their look, so I'd suggest converting which ever models you end up with to hold them where required. Everything else... I mean, does it have glowly bits, thats a plasma gun, does it have a huge barrel and drum, thats a grenade launcher, rpg=missile launcher, shotgun =shotgun, any generic modern-ish era guns, autoguns, any with particularly long barrels, hunting rifle.

NCE and old munda has a much more standardised weapon set and is far far easier to proxy.

Well, some of these are not too bad thanks to the generality of weapon types. For example, pistols with most gangs can be generally assumed to be autopistols or stub guns - which can easily look like most near-future cyberpunk pistols. Paint schemes for weapons can be used in a gang to distinguish types of long guns - painting lasguns all white, say, but autoguns steel grey.

Exactly! Melee weapons can work similarly. That sword painted grey? It's a sword. Painted bright blue? It's a power sword. Et cetera.

As for the gangers themselves, as mentioned, pretty well any visual theme can be matched (though needn't be) to a House or Outlander Gang's playstyle and skill options. So take that collection of loved Cyberpunk and Infinity, and weld them into a gang. Combat Zone's Danger Gals, for example, have a mix - a quick look at their starter suggests a couple of stub guns, a couple of shotguns, a grenade launcher, a couple of autoguns. If you were looking at the editions of the new gane (N20 and more recent), I would suggest maybe Orlock, but with that visual style and the similarity of weapon options in NCE, I might suggest Van Saar instead. Or still Orlock. Either really, look likely to be a good fit. Both focus on shooting, as they develop, but they do diverge. Orlock get more access to Ferocity skills, Van Saar to Techno skills, in NCE.

I'd take a look through https://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/

They have tons of options that are multi part and gun swappable. Built to play with you can do custom squads to mix and match head, torso, and leg options. They do wide selections of similar looks and could easily work for all options in any given gang.

Bonus points for no real conversion needs or printing your own but you can as well.

I’ve been meaning to do a gang using alternative models again - always good fun and in the classic wilderness years - essential!! Beauty of the classic 90s ruleset was that it was all very generic so you could whack any visual theme together and go!!

New Necromunda is a little trickier as the gangs have set themes and the rules tend to tie into those identities a bit more so a total visual divergence still somehow has to make sense with the rules - so a little thought is needed. No use choosing a rules path that is high on stealth and agility and then choosing models that look like the old box dreadnaughts!!

But if all she wants is female models… won’t make any difference what you choose.

Had a look at the Danger Gals lineup mentioned and, well, if that’s what she likes then job solved surely??

To me they look like a right mix of armour and aesthetics but with the only constant being the cat ears. So as long as they no taller than 32mm should be fine.

Etsy has a lot of Anime styled models as well if she likes that.

All good suggestions! Indeed the Danger Gals could be a good first bet...but there's not that many models. There might be other "cat punk" teamed ones around to fill it up. It's mostly pistols that are hard to distinguish (typically GW stuff is much bigger), but i really love the idea of color coding them. Blue for plasma, Red for Auto, Grey for slug, white for Las.

There’s a few on Etsy from Papsikels and a whole load of cat girl heads you can just stick on any female body ( I assume no tail is needed).

Given the variation of clothing you could most likely repurpose almost any female mini like that.

As for guns - any resin bit supplier will sell you any amount of verrrry similar to 40k weapons. Don’t forget GW actually sells extra weapons sets for Necromunda too - you’d just have to snip off the arms.

One other note on pistols... from memory (as I've only been playing new munda in the last few years), autopistols are the only pistol you want, except maybe the odd plasma/bolt pistol on key people. Or the occasional hand flamer... okay, what I mean is, glowy blue bit, flame tank bolted on or MASSIVE boxy bolt pistol aside, every pistol (and 80% easily of what a gang will be armed with pistol wise), will be autopistols. Laspistols arnt used because they have the negative hit penatly at range, and cost the same as an autopistol. So unless you have a funky fancy pistol on your leader or hand flamer on a key throwaway juve, pistols should be an issue

(also, depending on how 'into' wargames she is, introducing just a single type of pistol, a single rifle etc can make learning the game easier)

You might be right for the complexity of the various pistols, they could all be autopistols for simplicity's sake. By negative to-hit for the laspistol you mean that it has +1 instead of +2 in short range? Hope i have the right version of the book.
