rodtheworm's first real terrain (and later models too)

PSA:
~15-20 year old Green Stuff is not perfect, but still works with plenty of kneading:

Laying down some under structure for an ogre, either for an Ostlander band or as a hired sword. Arms won't actually be waving in the air, that's just to keep the wire out of the way.

I'm torn between sword and club vs. great weapon. I mean, the extra S4 attack, ability to parry, and increased likelihood of a stun is probably the better mechanical option, but he's probably tough enough to eat a couple of hits and two (unparryable to most) attacks wounding on 2+ does sound tempting... 😄

On a practical note, a big guy with a bunch of woodsmen is probably going to be doing the heavy stuff like cutting down trees, right?

If he's tough enough to take a couple of hits, then he doesn't really need the parry either - you could just go for double clubs. Although, since he's likely to be lower initiative than most opponents, the great weapon is indeed tempting.

I think on balance the clubs are the better option.
While he is tough to take down (T4, W3, Fear giving a decent chance for opponents to hit on 6s), he's also likely to get the charge (M6 and Fear), then strike on an even footing with I3. A2->3 is a decent increase in output, and S4 means the great weapon would only be an increase from 3+->2+ to wound.

Maybe later in the campaign, if he gets Lad's Got Talent...

Good point about the charge. I didn't think of that. (Also, I thought I2, but probably misremembered.)

That said, you seem to be assuming T3 opponents. Against T4 (dwarfs, orcs, etc) the great weapon is going from 4+ to 2+.

At the moment, my only (soon to be) opponent has chosen Witch Hunters. Valid point, though.

We're also planning to try out Wyrd Wars, which is a hack of Mordheim which updates some rules and rejigs the weapons to reduce everyone having clubs. It looks pretty decent, actually, so the idea is to try out both and see which we prefer. Given that, I needed to get some other people painted up:

I'm fairly happy with them, though in posting this I see there are couple of spots on the man's shield that need touching up 😅
The woman will get a symbol painted on her shield, not completely sure what. Possibly a hawk?

Still loving these Speed Paints. They may not be perfect, but they give a great result in a fraction of the time!

That’s the problem with taking photos of minis. It seems to enhance issues you completely miss with biological eyes.

Meant to upload last night but forgot. I managed to get a bit more sculpting done, though the chronic fatigue was hitting a bit harder yesterday. :/

Anyway...

From left to right:
1) Little bit more on the ogre with extra putty - sculpted shoes, added some more mass to the thighs/torso/belly.
2) Changing up my Middenheimers list a little by adding a Wolf Priest of Ulric, so put this guy together and just added a little flick of putty to sculpt a wolf head over (which will hopefully merge into the cloak)
3) I don't have any wolf minis, so clearly the answer is to sculpt one. By Saturday evening, which is when these guys are having their first game...
The drawing has been torn a bit in the process of gluing together an armature, but hopefully this will give me a good structure to sculpt over. It's good to be picking this up again - I really used to enjoy modifying my minis/sculpting.

Thinking of sculpting, I still have an Inquisitor-scale Ogryn somewhere that was something like 75-80% done. Would that be of interest to anyone? Maybe I should get that finished off too!

Wow, that's a lot of sculpting in very little time... I have some classic gw wolves, and would send you one, if I had any hope it could make it before your game.

That's very kind, thank you for the offer! I do have a couple of backup ideas too.

The Wolf Priest is just about there:

It's not especially pretty and looks a bit bear-like but it'll do for now, given both my skills and the putty have been sitting unused about 10 years. Hopefully I can make the paint hide flaws rather than reveal them!

I think it looks more like a rodent than a bear (or a wolf, sorry) - but maybe it's just reminding me of Ratskins.

I've had a bit of a relapse with the chronic fatigue syndrome recently, hence the lack of posting. I managed to get back to work this last week on a massive three mornings a week.
Chronic fatigue sucks, folks. I can thoroughly recommend not getting it.

Anyway, as things have improved slightly, I managed to make a little more progress on the inn:

It's really starting to come together now - the upper floor still lifts off at present to give me better access during painting, so I might make finishing and painting the indoors the next stage.

Side view. The smaller window was recommended by my wife, and looks much better, I think.

The floorboards on the upper storey are pretty much done, too - the plan is to cut back the beams once I can secure everything in, but they help keep the spacing correct at the moment.

I'm looking forward to playing on this - maybe in the summer, at this rate! 😆
