Yeah, its been a while... Been collecting (garage sales and Craigslist freebies) and buying PVC and ABS pipe for PIPEMANIA!

Pipe pieces running from 1/2" to 4"

Wanted to start with a small practice piece to work out textures, colors and sizes.
Rough cut the pipe ends with an angle grinder and glued on a couple to T junctions, then burnt the pipe pieces with a propane torch (outdoors, with a respirator) which gave them nice crackle effect after scrubbing the soot off. Texture/finish could probably be left the way it is, but I wanted to do some test painting.

Added a bit of dark brown overspray:

And then added layers of rust paint and then the remains of original pipe colors followed by gluing the pipes together. The unit is freestanding as is, but I'm thinking about a base.

Yahoo!
Nice set of pipes ya got there.

Inspiring stuff. I would have never thought blow-torching pvc would give it that texture (and color!) That orange-crackled look would be perfect for red-hot metal or some sort of Chaos glowing warp sort of thing. I wonder what would happen if you torched the painted ones again? Some rivets and plates (and skulls!) would really bring it too life.

Will definitely burn a painted one to see what happens. This piece was a practice piece so did not do any detail on it at all. Real pieces will have more detail. Have lots of 3mm half round rivets that will get used, along with wire and other stuff...

BTW the crackle effect works better on new PVC over old PVC.

Yup, still alive... or What I Did During The Covid.

Part 1, Prelude: Goblincon, January 2020

Our annual gaming and gift exchange event went off as normal with some amazing gifts were exchanged.

Some pregame table shots of two tables

Then there was gaming, first my Escher against Tyler's Cawdor

Part 1, Prelude: Goblincon, January 2020 continued

Gift exchange I did the dumpster (theme was Trash, trash, trash) and the Cawdor shrine pieces. Cawdor shrine was unfinished.. Still needed a lot of work on the flames and some other details.

Part 2, Battlefleet Gothic sidetrack, June to November 2020

Did almost no painting from February through May. As June rolled around I started on what became my Covidius Sector Battlefleet Gothic imperial Fleet. 95% of these ships in the pics were painted June to November 2020.

Covidius Fleet

Ministorum/Ecclisiarchy subfleet

Sector Command subfleet

Part 3, Shadows of Brimstone sidetrack, December 2020 to May 2021 and ongoing.

We finally got back to playing Shadows of Brimstone after a three year break, soI had lots of stuff that needed to be painted. This is mostly enemies with the exception of the preacher and the donkey.
