Shadow War: Armageddon General Discussion

Soooooo pleased about the rules being the same as 'munda! Was worried it would just be 40k Mk. 28.76 rules.

Scenery is spot on but I feel the models are a complete cop out!

I realise that the original 'Munda box set had some pretty dire plastics models but at least they were unique and had character! Something new to add to the atmosphere.

OK, rant over.....But great positive points by Commisar Shriken RE: fresh blood into 'munda-type games. Heck, I know I would struggle to get games together now, knowing how niche our beloved games are.

I might even walk into a GW store to play a game!

Interesting change to ammo rolls -- they're now made on 2D6, with values ranging from 3+ for a lasgun to 7+ for a plasma gun. Was wondering why they'd bumped the price of lasguns up to 35 credits, but only failing ammo checks on double 1s might justify it.

Not so sure about the inclusion of Terminator armor ...

It's old school Termie armour too. Going to be terrifying! I hope it's very very few and far between as even a single Terminator should not be something a small squad of skirmishers want to go any where near. If it's not super powerful why have it on the game. If it's super powerful what the hell are a bunch of autoguns wielding cultists supposed to do!

Keep it very special and even more rare please!

What a silly question, die gloriously in the name of the true gods of course... and I must say, I find your lack of dedication that you even question these things most disturbing. :p

Or alternatively... bring a plasma gun or similar... might actually mean we see meltaguns being taken more commonly as their true awesomeness deserves.

In guessing terminator armour will have some movement restrictions or limitations, in sure it did back in the day. i.e. can't run or climb ladders or something.

Perhaps it might be a Termi Champ as the 'hired gun' card for CSM?

Interesting that the highest save mod seems to be -5, so even if you hit a Termi with a melta gun he'll have an 8+ on 2D6, not terrible.

Not sure if this is the thread to ask but... what with the rules leaks... and release in a couple of weeks.. are we going to see some of these rules implemented into the NCE version? or other?

No.

Well I hope not. The NCE is Necromunda, SW:A is not. This is one of the reasons I'm not too happy about the rules being so similar. That and people will tend to play SW:A and not Necromunda.

Edit: sorry didn't mean to come off as harsh. I just don't want cross-pollination to occur. I think the NCE is almost there, it's great as is but just needs some tweaks in certain areas.

Probably the other way around. Knowing GW they've likely done very little research into the rules and all the issues with them in their original form and will contain lots of vagaries and exploitable mechanisms. It does look to be rather simplified in comparison to Necromunda which will reduce the possible amount of meta combinations and such, but we'll see.

Funny you mention the rules being simplified. I was looking at the 'to hit' expalination and it doesn't mention that a 1 always misses. A small, but important detail. Perhaps it appears later in the rule book. Perhaps not.

That tends to be covered under the general 'what is a table top game' blurb in the very beginning that a 1 always fails and a 6 passes, unless noted otherwise. At least that was the trend for several editions of 40k and fantasy that I remember actually being bored enough to read that section of the main rules in.

Yeah maybes. I haven't seen any recent rule books from GW, the old Necro rule book has the 1 auto Miss rule alongside the to-hit table. A minor quibble at best.
What do people think about the additional gang rules being released through WD? I kinda like everything in one neat tome rather than having to reference loads of different books. I wonder if there will be a later 'one rulebook to rule them all' offering later? Or a blood bowl style campaign book (which blatantly should have been in the bloody main book)?

Fellow Yakkers I've not been really following this. Should I be excited? Hey ho I'm off to google....

Wouldn't be surprised to see a soft cover compendium of some type. There's one for the Death faction in AOS which is basically just hard copy of all the downloadable pdf's. General's Handbook sold well with a 2nd edition imminent. Say 6 pages per faction plus some new scenarios and optional rules so about 80 pages in all. I'm sure that would sell and from GW's point of view it's free advertising for their infantry boxes.
