Shadow War: Armageddon General Discussion

Confession time yakkers.....

Bought off eBay for £60 + p&p

This release has hit me slap-bang in the middle of my venn diagram (ouch!!)

Some chap must have bought a few copies on pre-order, he has split one up (hurray!, terrain for me and my underhive!) and kept one together: starting bid = £110

At least I have helped him re-coup some cost and none if my £££ has (directly) contributed to any perceived "lining the pockets of the great beast / he who shall not be named / GW"

Not a bad price I reckon, considering each separate set is likely to be between £30-£40 individually, and I never wanted the rules (free pdfs eventually) or the Ork / SM scouts / counters anyhoo....

Apparently it'll be with me by next Week!

Just received an email from wayland games cancelling my order. Any one else in the same boat?

While Wayland have their own issues, in this case, according to their e-mail they got blindsided by GW. By offering an extra £5 store credit to those affected they are certainly displaying goodwill and trying to make up for GW's appalling decision making.

Someone else has split off the terrain from the box set on eBay. It's on for £50 at the moment. I've bid (up to 70) as I fancy just the terrain but I'm not interested in the rest of the box.

I agree about the limiting orders and the skimming. It's really annoying.

Well how long did we wait for them to finally re-release Space Hulk after the third edition?
And for Space Hulk I believe that they actually DID say it was a Limited Release.

5 years... Take me that long just to paint all of that scenery anyways. Maybe longer. :(
( glares over at his still unpainted 2009 copy of space hulk sitting on the shelf....)

I gave up on Wayland Games after they cancelled/refunded my last 3 orders, after 4 weeks of chasing them up.
So I feel your pain.

You are more on the head that you realise. Back in the day, GW almost bankrupt itself with GoMo release, especially the different language versions. They got it very very wrong I nthe other direction then and over ordered stock.

I think the surprising thing to me is that by now, they still don't (and are still proud of) not doing any market research. Considering that space hulk, calth horus heresy and a few other sets have gone within a day of being released, and others such as dreadfleet languished on the shelves for serious amounts of time before they were recalled for not selling... why doesn't GW learn from this and actually look into demand.

Also as an aside, from my naïve lack of business knowledge background... why do they not just continue taking pre orders now, but with a caveat that it will be shipped in...3 weeks time? That way they get much more accurate numbers of how many copies they need to make, and still take money, and still keep customers happy who are otherwise becoming unhappy because they fear they might have missed the boxed release. Sure its a wait, but hey, its better than the current situation right? But I'm sure that's not feasible for some sort of factory or logistics reason which is why they don't (or they feel it's a bad idea business wise, who knows).
I doubt a production run can be done in 3 weeks...

okay.... 'but with a caeat that it will be shipped in... [insert suitable number here] weeks time?' :p. I would be very surprised if it's much longer than 4 weeks, as that was what they allowed for their 'made to order' stuff they printed on demand over the xmas period.

Would be cool if they released updated PDF versions of the old gangs and made the old Necro range cast to order. I bet they'd make a ton of cash on them, and would give them a good indication of how much demand there is for Necro style models. I can't see them making new plastic kits for gangs anytime soon due to the expense, but if they can figure out a way to incorporate the gangs into a new faction, that would be sweet!
Imagine a new 40k army made up of Necro figures, perhaps repurposed to be generic 'hive word gangers', similar to how the cultists work for the main armies of chaos or tyrranids.
'The world of Cadia/Armageddon/Necromunda is fighting a desperate battle to repel the forces of chaos/tyrranids and the warring gang factions have united to support the Astra Militarum in its darkest hour' kind of thing. That would be pretty sweet.
OR we could just use the thousands of old models that were made.... I have several copies of the old rules. What I would like to see is a collector's set issued for Necromunda.

I collected my box this morning (Friday) and am well impressed with the size of it if nothing else, also bagged an extra set of terrain from a mate for £40 so I'm all loaded up on sprues for the foreseeable future.

All good but some other good news is that my supplier is pretty sure or has been advised that GW has sold out of Online and Store stock only and that there is further distribution stock that will come available soon. They were confident enough that they are touting further orders.

Now this is hearsay at this point but possible light at the end of the tunnel. Fingers crossed eh.

As for the game; the book's nice and well laid out and I'm actually coming round to the idea of a more condensed After Game phase. It promises to make club night campaigns a bit more user friendly to non-Accountants.

No fricking roster pad though, just as my photocopier gives up the ghost!

@ almic85:

With every mission you earn promethium caches. You can hire special operatives for those promethium caches. On the other hand you need 15 promethium caches to win a campaign. So you have to decide if the specualist is worth it or not.
