Shenanigans in the north of Scotland

This is the first one I've had - just became aware of it via a friend who's hugely into 'lootcrate' type stuff getting last month's.

This one contained a metal ten-man squad from Warlord Games' Bolt Action range - I got post-Stalingrad Soviet veterans in snowsuits - a WW2 historic character miniature from a small company I'd never heard of called Stoessi's Heroes which frankly made it for me by being Hemingway, a couple of Vallejo paints, a fox-man who thinks he's in a John Wayne WW2 flick, and, wait for it, a little baggie of Haribo sweets.

Strictly 'value for money', I don't know. Not really the point - the idea of miniatures and related 'hobby' stuff from unexpected sources sold it for me.

For those scenarios where they need one - hopefully primarily rescue missions - a 'gang relic' for my Venators, at this point ready for paint.

And, (WIP: needs a spot of green) yelling about how 'The Emperor LOVES you, man!' and something about the Emperor having many hands 'with which to embrace us all': the Reverend Jeronimo Kipling in all his heretical deluded shotgun-toting glory.

So, Reaper Miniatures' 'Bones'.

I have here two copies of the same sculpt, from Reaper. One metal, the other 'Bones'. I got them as a part of a project to build a Slaaneshi cult gang - to go on the gang's witch's (another Reaper mini, and I'm experimenting with the grey undercoat/black wash technique with her) base. The 'Bones' one was got first, the metal one because after slinging some nuln oil at it to make the detail actually visible on that stark white...

Remember the horror show that was GW's switch-over to 'Finecast'? Reaper have somehow managed to find something WORSE for miniature-making than 'Finecast', this 'Bones' stuff is like a rotted car tyre and as for its ability to replicate detail? You can make out the metal fairy's fingernails, on the 'Bones' one it turns out you can't make out the fine detail not because of the stark white, but because it's not there to see.

In short, if you're buying from Reaper, don't let the lower price of the 'Bones' stuff tempt you, it's crud. Spring for the metal; you won't regret it.

i went to a Reaper booth at PaxEast one year, and it was nothing but that Bones crap. i looked at a couple blisters worth, then went a couple booths over and bought Krosmaster Arena.

I really like your work making customized weapons for your fighters. Scorch Adamson's plasmagun is especially cool with all those different parts. It certainly looks like the plasmagun was really built somewhere deep in the underhive from whatever the weaponsmith could scrounge up, Perfect! For me, modifying and building the model's weaponry is about my favorite part of the modeling.

Also, your juve Benny is a very good conversion of that cultist holding the flail and autopistol. I have tried a couple times- and failed- to make a conversion of that cultist into a gang fighter that I am happy with. Your work on him has shown me that it can be pulled off. I'll have to try again myself. The head swap you did really worked well, also his bandana around his neck makes him look like he belongs there working on the railroad. If you don't mind me asking, where is Benny's new head and hat from?
