Space Marines - Space Marines in the Underhive

>> SPACE MARINES IN THE UNDERHIVE <<

Confrontation_cover.jpg

Confrontation by Les Edwards, 1983.

Inspired by Les Edwards' great artwork (and because I couldn't find some adequate rules) I have written my own rules for Space Marines in the Underhive. Beginning with the Underhive Bestiary in the Outlanders Rulebook I used the Warhammer 40.000 - Codex Army Lists (1993), the NCE (mainly the Spyrers rules and Weapon Price Chart) and the Inquisimunda Rulebook as a reference. I hope you like it!

Comments and advice welcome, brothers!

Do they get to have an Auspex? :-D

If it was a gang I'd be more inclined to have them as a few scouts and one sergeant, rather than complete power armoured monsters...

The starting experience of the Marines would mean the entire gang would level up in their first match. Perhaps you should add +D6 to the starting experience to prevent this?

Good Point! I'll add that in the next update, thanks.

Maybe later. ;) I considered to integrate Infra-Red Googles into the Power Armour, but then I thought that would be too much. Bio-Scanners would do the job. Perhaps the Marines should get a reward when completing a mission (since they can't buy equipment).

Do it! I would love to see that. Veteran Sergeant and Scouts, perfect for "Training Day"... My team will contain a Veteran Sergeant with Boltpistol and Chainsword, one Space Marine with a Flamer, three Scouts and two Familiars.

There is this WarSeer discussion on the topic if it helps in your developments/ rules-balancing.

Thanks for the link. Balancing them is tough, especially the initial Exp. What do you think about the point costs?

What are familiars meant to be? Normal humans or something else?

Also, do the marines have to take ammo rolls as per normal? I'd imagine they'd be quite efficient with the state of their weaponry.

I'm curious about familiars too.

In my mind, the ammo rolls for marines on a mission deep in the underhive would have to make ammo rolls as normal, but they would be much less likely to explode, or have +1 to the ammo roll?

Familiars. Servo-skulls, small Drones, Cherubim and Servitors. For example this guy:

According to the Outlanders Rulbook Chaos Space Marines automatically pass Ammo rolls because their weapons "are well looked after". I was thinking they should have a 2+ Ammo roll, but forgot to mention it in the current version. Suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback, brothers!

Another could be take the IG/PDF as inspiration: they come with weaponsmith skill(that what it called?). Refresh my memory, is that an ammo roll reroll, or am I barking up the wrong sump pipe?

i have quite a lot of metal old marine minis and was thinking of making a space marine gang with some of them, i have a quick question, should the veteran sergeant have power armour or scout armour, just seems odd that he is in the same section as a space marine but has scout armour instead of power armour

or is this intended ?

It's a mistake (But it was corrected in version 1.01)! The Veteran Sergeant and Space Marines have Power Armour!
