My group were doing some theory crafting and we ran into a clash between the Redemptionist's Redeem rule for captured fighters and the Spyrer's Captured rule; specifically which rule takes precedent?

Personally I prefer the rule of fun and would let the Redemptor give it a shot but I wanted to hear what the Tribe thought.

I think "A Spyrer who is captured is always killed" sounds far more final than "If the enemy gang doesn't attempt a rescue or fails then the Redemptor Priest can try to convert the prisoner".

I can also see a Redemptor being far more ragey to a Spyrer than a "normal" enemy and burning them out of hand. I also feel a Spyrer would be much less likely to convert to the Redemptionist cause - their life has not been a ceaseless toil of never ending misery and death, they know life can be pretty awesome without the rantings of a pathetic downhive priest.

Rule of cool says maybe they could give it a shot, but ultimately I would say "always killed" takes precedence rules wise.

So RAW it's always killed, to me at least, because of the timings. You first get an option to ransom... spyrers are a nope, next you get an option to rescue, at which point the spyrer is killed, then you get a chance to redeem, at which point you realise you are preaching to a corpse and feel rather silly.

That would be my take on the order based on rules.

However, it is a cool thing, and at the end of the day it's your game, so if your group want to, go for it! (be aware this might lead to a very very powerful redemptionist crusade if they do get him though!)

I could see it. Spyrer gets captured, disappears for awhile, returns with armor freshly painted in Redemption colors and a dark aura surrounding them. Are they truly broken, or will the “Redemption” wear off and they return to their old ways? Unable to return to the Spyre, they wander the underhive, burning with hatred for the Redemption, seeking revenge. (oops... got a little ahead of the storyline there)

It is a little ambiguous, but I would say the Spyre rule takes precedence. However, if you do go with the Redeem rule, the fighter just becomes a brother and his equipment is burnt.
Personally, I'd just kill him and take the creds by selling his armour.

well, yeah. Rules Wise, i agree the Spyrer rule takes precedence. But Rule of Cool wise, if the mini was done up right, i’d totally allow it.

Just stumbled on this thread... and you know what, I'd allow it to redeem a Spyrer... except that like all redeemed fighter, they turn into redemptionist brothers and since their crazy armor gets destroyed well they start as fresh unequipped brothers with 20+d6 xp regardless of how many advances they had as spyrers. After all, let's be honest, the stats of spyrers and their advances aren't really gained from experience but rather from the crazy advanced technology the armor offers and how it evolves over time.
