When founding a gang with standard ash wastes rules (1000 creds + 400 creds for vehicles/mounts), do you aim to try to get all of your fighters a mount/space on a transport bed?

If yes, how have you done this?

If not, what % of your fighters do you aim to get mobile, and what % stay as foot sloggers until you can get mired creds?

For example, starting Goliath crew of 7-8 Fighters. What would you favour to join them?

(A) 2x Goliath Maulers (Twin linked bolsters or Twin linked Grenade Launchers) + Crew.
(B) 1x custom large vehicle, 1x custom medium vehicle, both pretty much vanilla but with Transport Beds to carry all (or nearly all) fighters? With crew, unlikely many creds for weapons/other upgrades.
(C) A different approach?

I'm not a big Ash Wastes guy, but from what I've seen, custom vehicles seem to be an inefficient use of credits.

Certainly not cheap to buy or maintain, but see only viable option (outside of Ridge Hauler) to ensure all fighters are mobile, which is making me think that my default approach to thinking about an AW gang is wrong, and i shouldn’t be looking to try and provide transport for fighters at the outset.

I don't play Ash Wastes but from the battle reports I've seen online it seems A is the more popular choice - take some select models but most of the gang is still made up of footsloggers

Thanks - that’s interesting.

Think I maybe just need to adjust my mindset then and lean away from “the ash wastes are lethal and you should not touch the ground” approach I had in my head.

Most of my starting gangs are around eight strong. 400 creds equals eight dirt bikes. Sometimes I go for a vehicle but usually bikers or foot sloggers until they can afford one.
Each have stack has a loot casket in addition to the usual ones so having fighters that can climb helps you scrounge pennies.

the two genestealer cult vehicles are terrible for transporting dudes, and the default crew hit chances is pretty bad, bikes are nice but can screw you if you have bad iniative for my gang i got my champions and leader a bike and bare bones rockgrinder cant remeber if i started with the ridge runner as well been to long, i was trying to get them all space on transports but overestimated how many dudes i could fit on each vehicle by 1-2 models

Yeah. Initiative isn’t a strength for my Goliath, so wasn’t keen on mounts. And as you say, need to retain some Unmounted fighters who can climb gantries if needed.

Yes, have a Rockgrinder and Ridge runner and realised pretty quick that unless built as custom vehicles with Transport beds, would struggle to get more than 3-4 Goliath models total standing on them. Other option was looking at was a kit-bashed Ork Battlewagon with the rear remade with over-sized transport bed, but expensive creds-wise and would be a lot of eggs in one basket.

Think I’m looking at this (at minute just to try out in a couple of friendlies);

- Forge Tyrant
- Forge Boss (melee)
- Stimmer (melee)
- 2x Bruisers (1x specialist, but no special weapon)
- 1x Forgeborn
- 2x Bully
- VEHICLES/MOUNTS: 2x Road Thugs on Goliath Maulers

Was tempted to swap out a Bully for a Rogue Doc or Chem Dealer, but opted for more boys to start with.

(Also tried to avoid duplicating gene-smithing)
