That sister of battle nutter-with-an-eviscerator is a horrible model to paint by the way - there's a huge dead area under her arms with no detail - she doesn't have a face or anything hidden under there. You won't see it in play but pick her up and it's obvious.

After a really exceptionally vigorous, dead-arm inducing shake of my Vallejo black (72.051) it now dries satin. Do the same again and I guess it might be matte

For "Stranger in a Strange Land" I have decided to do a Slann. I'm going to call him a Slann Auditor I think - since they are essentially responsible for everything in Ye Olde Lore, I thought it would be interesting if they sent out some envoys from their enclave to see how things are doing in the wider 40k universe. He may be less than impressed.

He started life as a simple 90's era plastic Lizardman, painted poorly by me as a young chap.

Slann-1.jpg

He's since been stripped, slightly reposed and had tat glued to him. My narrative is that he's been to a variety of inhabited systems to check on them - and faced resitance each time. Naturally, he has prevailed, but he's collected gear and trophies along the way.

Slann-2.jpg

An Imperial chainsword & grenades, Dark Eldar pistol, and a badly damaged Chaos Space Marine pauldron leaving us in no doubt that its former occupier fared poorly against our cold blooded firend.

I added the hair as an afterthought - it'll be blended in slightly with some putty so it's more like a headdress. I am going to either scuplt or hunt down a Tau shoulder pad for his other shoulder. He's been about a bit!

Very cool. I’m looking at him an thinking “that base is Milliput cast isn’t it?” Now I’m wondering if that’s also a Milliput chainsword or if it’s just very old yellowed plastic!

Both the base and sword are milliput. I might be a touch naughty and make copies of bases from leftover milliput when I'm sculpting stuff. The old-school chainsword is also a standard mould I keep on hand to use up leftover putty - my wastes rider on the previous page has one too. Endlessly useful things to cast.

I always legitimately own the things I copy, they're usually oop and I never sell them so... morally grey area?

Morally Yellow-Grey surely? ;)

That’s fine, I’ve got a few bluestuff moulds of stuff I use for basing decoration that I jab leftover putty into. Seems a shame to waste. Have a look at my sig link, I made some Loot Counters that way!!

I did a little work on the Slann last night.
My milliput approximation of a Tau shoulder armour plate:

The other side of him showing the wrecked Chaos Marine pauldron, filled neck gap and headdress cap:

I've decided the pauldron will be painted with the Alpha Legion hydra thing.

I'm trying to figure out if I can get any other races in there. I've got some Orky bits in my box but couldn't find anything I thought was suitable. I wonder if he could be followed around by a grot slave if I got hold of one!

I've decided on a nice bright blue-and-orange scheme for the Slann - old RT fluff suggests more extrovert Slann have brighter colourings. I am considering tattoos as well but I'm not sure how to pull it off on blue skin.

This is my mood-board-thingy for him as a colour/style reference:

I've also started cloaks for the Wastes Riders:

One of them ended up with a load of crud from my desk though, but I can sort that easily enough once they're dry. I bought actual sculpting tools a couple of days ago, which should make my life easier for things like this.

The little curly turd on the coaster is a greenstuff snake for the Slann's base

maybe they can't tattoo because of the tone. how about scarification, and you could do lighter "tattoos" like a pale blue scar?
