Necromunda Stoof's Project Thread

A little bit of Spyrer progress now that I'm back from my holidays:

Pipework & pod things on the Malcadons, and the Jakara's shield & sword. Nothing new on the Orrus or Yeld.

Wait, you get your gaming stuff delivered to your work?
Yeah, we're pretty easy going when it comes to personal stuff being delivered. As long as nobody takes the piss it's no big deal. Usually I pick it up from goods in myself but since I was away someone kindly took it to my desk (y)

Proof of concept - this might actually work! I can see it skimming over the surface of the sump or soaring between factory walls.

Essentially the front cowling and fins are on upside down/opposite sides - there was little actual scalpel work involved beyond trimming down the weapon pod mount. It still looks Eldary are the moment, but with some minor tweaks it should keep the Xenos aesthetic and gain a little Imperial charm (i.e. glue a tiny Aquilla to it so any Inquisitors who are looking can be fully satisfied that there's no heresy going on, no siree, not here, why these are just exceptionally pointy cargo skiffs...)

I need some spyrer-ish heads to replace the Eldar ones and some more Imperial-esque barrels/muzles for the weapon pod, for whilst one might trade with the Eldar and conceivably end up with a jetbike or two to butcher into your brat offspring's plaything, setting up a regular supply of shriuken ammunition would probably be a little more problematic.

Now to finish painting my Spyrers and not get too distracted by their rides...

Love it, 2 things that I think would finish the look and make it a little more in line aesthetically (and if you don't, there is every likelihood I will). Trim the excess soulgems (on the turret thing and the exhaust and leave the others as indicator lights) and replace the Eldar handle looking antennae with something more more chunky. Other than that... I might have to use this for my eventual hivers/brats

A little more progress this morning. Weapon swap to Van Saar lasgun bodies and shaved off several of the stones as @cainex1 suggested. This will be the Yeld's bike, hence laser weapons.

The lasguns are actually lined up with each other but for some reason the image makes them look squint. The furthest away one is trimmed better than it looks too - I had to remove a hand then re-carve the grip bits into it and it's ended up with white stress lines that hide the detail.

The next jetski/bike up is a bit more seriously armed for the Orrus :sneaky:

I'm noodling through how to make it look less alien & more hive tech aswell (apart from just adding skulls and cables)

To be honest (and yes, it's heresy, I know) "skulls and cables" is one of my least favourite aspects of the 40K aesthetic. *ducks thrown objects*

Let me know if you have any revelations.

Couple of smaller fins on the lower front half would help break up the shape and make it less obviously eldar jetbike shaped.
Works really well overall tho.

Hmmm. Perhaps. Maybe some outrigger type fins like on a Star Wars speeder bike. They'd need to be fairly smooth to fit in with the look and I'm not sure I can be bothered sculpting/carving them

You could remove the point on the front of the jetbike and replace it with a grill/vent? That might be a drastic change but would definitely help remove the "pointy Eldar Jetbike" aesthetic.

You could also turn the rear side fins around, or replace them with more rectangular/boxy fins like with most Imperial flyers.

Nice idea on the vent and making the wings less pointy. I might do that for one of them - my intention is to have them all similar but not the same, like the Spyrers themselves. The blockier one with a front vent would suit the Orrus I think.

The Malcadon's one needs to be somehow sharper looking - I'm considering some blade-like protrusions and weapons.

The other Malcadon and the Jakara will ride the Skyweaver, which I'm not sure what to do with yet.

Anyone got any suggestions for spyrer-eque heads that would fit an Eldar's neck? I've had a look about and there seems to be a gap in the market for semi-techy noble type heads... @Mad Robot, fancy filling a niche?

That did the trick. Looking quite good now. On the trimming and adding stabilizers, I agree. You could even use the offcuts from squaring off the rear tails for the purpose, just be very careful with your cuts.
