Stoof's Project Thread

Tada! A full squad painted. I still hate doing squads, but it wasn't as bad as painting them in my usual slow manner. I know the technique I'm going to use to paint the other 30 or so chaps in the army. All in all a successful experimental run.

(Shhh I know the anti-tank gun isn't based but since it's not strictly required I'll do it later... It's finished until it's not 😁)

That kind of cheeky logic (plus the anti-tank gun) will surely see those Huns in the woods off your glorious isle and back onto the continent.

My wife made me sell my howitzer. Something about making the garden look untidy.
And here you could have taken “seed bombing” to a whole new level. Nothing like spreading some native seeds up to 30km away without increasing your carbon footprint by leaving your property.

It's been a super productive couple of days!

Second batch of my 8th Army guys

Where would the British Army be without the occasional pissed up Gordon Highlander?

Converted sniper team.

Maybe 3 hours work?

My force so far.

Cheers laddies!

Individually they aren't brilliantly painted, but they look good st tabletop level, which was my only aim.

For comp 41 I've settled on doing an 8th Army "beast master" aka pigeon handler 🐦 After all, reliable communication is key!

The pigeons (Speckled Jim II and Spotted Jemima) are milliput. One will be in the little basket with its head poking out, the other in the upturned hand.

The basket is card which has a faint cross hatch pattern, hopefully that will look like wicker when painted up.

There’s a caption contest waiting in your conversion. Hope the enemy is not preparing any sort of anti-messenger measures like a golden eagle or a pack of pheasant hunters…

I'm contemplating counting him as a 25 pounder artillery unit - a la the Homing Pigeon in Worms Armageddon.

The first Tank has appeared in support of my Bolt Action army - an old favourite of mine, the Matilda II.

I learned during building it that the classic "dazzle" colour scheme of the one in the UK Tank Museum is actually a mistake, and it should have been a sort of greeny grey rather than blue-grey. Which certainly makes more sense.

Wrong!

However, I quite liked the "wrong" scheme, so I did it anyway but muted the blue a bit so it isn't so striking.

“wrong!” Makes me think of the classic movie Operation Petticoat which centers around a pink submarine during WW II.

I've never seen that one. At a guess I'd say that at least once in the film the pink sub is spotted, but the person who reports it isn't believed because they say it's pink?

The precursor to H2G2s Improbability Drive!

Both sides spot it and think it belongs to the other side. It’s a comedy, so mistakes aplenty are made to comedic effect. Especially the one that results in a pink sub.
