I'm playing Genestealer Cults so I don't get any fancy house brutes. I figure if I outlaw my gang I can get a Sump Beast to represent a Purestrain, but is it worth it? Getting anywhere near the threat level of a house brute will require buying a lot of upgrades, taking it over 300 credits.

Is anyone else running a Sump Beast? How do you suggest to equip and use it?

I ran a Sump beast in a previous campaign in my Ogryn gang.
I chose the slow 6T profile, upgraded it with +2" Move, Armour and Lashing attack to have 5" range, since absence of Ranged options is the curse of Ogryn teams and the campaign had quite a lot of high-strength or toxic weapons by that point, so T6 made much sense.
That particular Beast turned out to be somewhat underwhelming when it came to actually killing stuff, however it was extremely tough, so there usually was a place for him holding off objectives, blocking passages and the like. It could also manage moping up chaff like juves and such, but overall it was a solid mediocre warrior.
Do note that all of the above is true in a gang that already consists of T5 and T6 melee juggernauts. In a gang that has solid ranged options you'd be better off picking a deadlier non-versatile weapon and going on a rampage eating faces :)

Thanks for the info. For my test campaign I went with a Rogue Doc (neither of the 2 of us has high reputation!) to offset the grind of the Uprising second half.
We'll start the real campaign soon (probably about 10 players!) so I guess I'll try the beast then if I can get enough rep and cash in the first campaign half.

I've never even heard of A Sump Beast, is it a fan made brute? or is it a official brute that I've somehow overlooked?

If you Google "Outlaw brutes Necromunda" you should easily find a PDF copy of the rules. Includes Scrapcode Ambots, Chaos Ogryns, Warp Horrors, & Sump Beasts
