Tabletop Minion put out a new video about reviving a dead game, SW:A. I think his video could bring back some interest in the game. The subreddit already was showing some sign of life too. Though im curious, what do we think about SW:A here on Yaktribe, several years later? Is there any interest here? i got into the game very recently, after finding the starter set on ebay for a bargain and been playing with my younger brother for awhile. The game is a lot of fun, but i think ill be testing out some homebrew material here and making new material as well.

I've considered it a few times, and did see Uncle Atoms video on it. I'm still very happy with NCE, but SW:A is still on the radar for playing with the classic 40k factions. I might still give it a go, providing I find a good deal.

You can easily find the rulebook with all the factions (make sure it has the tagline at the bottom of the cover) on ebay for super cheap. You can also find them online through other means. I like NCE but being able to use 40k factions at a skirmish level with Necromunda rules is a lot of fun. Just wish the actual campaign rules were a little more in-depth though im sure people have already posted campaign homebrew ideas here

Its a fun game - as it should be seeing as its just classic Necromunda with a short campaign and 40k teams.

I’ve enjoyed playing it in the past, would be perfectly happy to play it again now! I could use my Orks and Dark Eldar Wyches - which I brought to play with it!

I’ve not seen his video on it yet - so I’m not sure what’s been said, other than consider playing it again.

It does sit in a weird spot - 1995 Necromunda was born from the rules of 40k 2nd, and then they were tweaked a few times and then SW:A appeared, which seems to be the LRB edition of the game + modern 40k statlines for various factions.

I don’t think they were ever prepared for the level of enthusiasm it received, hence the rushing out of PDF extras and later a compendium on the lot. It certainly told them there was a desire for that level of gaming and Kill Team and Necromunda: Underhive arrived not long after.

Unfortunately that killed SW:A - though I doubt it was ever intended to be more than just the box set and a fancy way of recouping a lot of the initial tooling costs of Sector Mechanicus terrain.

If you’re planning on playing it, then the compendium book covers all you need and you can just enjoy it as it is. No need to update anything.

If you absolutely must, then the obvious thing is to just play a standard NCE campaign instead of the promethium based one that’s included. In terms of extra 40k stuff - you’re probably on your own working that out. The version of 40k that was around is extinct now and the new one is most likely not compatible in cost etc.

As I’m here! If you fancy using them I made some fighter cards and roster cards in the style of modern Necro for SW:A. Handy to have around! I certainly enjoyed using them!!

Oh the fighter cards are gonna come in handy for sure! Thank you!

That’s my main appeal of the game, 40k units with 40k 2nd ed rule tweaks from Necromunda. I played Kill Team 2018 and 2021 and they are fun however, with each iteration of the rules they keep moving further from “your dudes” mentality with set loadouts and such. SW:A encourages that so I gravitated towards it.

I feel the game has potential too for it to tweaked and worked on further. I play a lot of TTRPGs so homebrewing and making my own content is second nature to me, so working out new teams could be fun. I’ve been reading the 40k 2nd edition battle bible and found a tool to covert current unit stat lines to that edition as well.

I love the idea of it more than I actually love it.
I was first in the queue, literally, on release day and wasn’t just getting it for the new terrain.
I even took part in the GW store campaign, a very first for me, before my passion fizzled out.

I’m convinced the entire thing was just a marketing campaign to gift wrap their shiney new plastic terrain kits and see how well the new audience would take to old necro. (Spoiler:they didn’t)

The boxed game, keeping all their fluff in mind, should have been Imperial guard vs orks, with an emphasise on turning a fresh troop of recruits into a squad/mob of grizzled veterans. But what happened was that everyone went for power play factions and designer lists, straight off the mark. The game instantly lost any character it might have otherwise had.

The marine scouts should have been a special faction, in the vein of necro outlanders. But obviously they are a massive fan favorite and the risk to sales was greatly diminished by their inclusion *ork impression* “SPACE MARINES”

I’d still love to have another go of this, despite my overt grumpiness, but it would need a bit of work to necro it up a little more! (Old school necro, the best school)

p.S. Absolutely NO TERMINATORS!
