Greetings Yak Bretheren!
In support (but not a part of) Yaktribe and Yakday, I would like to set up and organise a regional group meeting.
Growing up as a bairn I was heavily reliant on the odd trip to the metro centre to get my fix of the hobby - and it sucked! Then as an adult I was also at the mercy of gw to find regular games and opponents, and as some of you may have experienced, the beard levels were pretty high - which was of equal suck!
So my proposition to you all is that one evening, every other month, that we all get together, have a laugh, a beer, a couple games of whatever (necro, gomo, mordheimio??) and get to know our yak kinsmen and have a scene for new players to cut their teeth and for grizzled veterans to emerge from retirement!
It would also be good if people could use it to organise their own groups inbetween meet ups, to share their stories and mis adventures, and to create a network for all the tribe to be a part of!

Although I'm organising it in Durham, the invitation is open to all yak members! I'll flesh the details out abit more once I get a better idea of if you are all interested or not, but what do you think?

Thanks for the support bastion, I really appreciate it!
It's not something I had thought about until I'd started doing yakday, but given how many we are and how many people were interested in the idea, I would like to think that if we got just a handful of dedicated Yakmen, ready and willing to show initiative, we could set up groups around the country and have something we can all be a part and proud of!
I mean, I just love being a part of yaktribe, if I never ever got a game I would still be here (working from my hermit hole), still posting my half arsed drivel, and still loving looking at everyone else's extremely brilliant outstanding work. But just imagine how much greater it would be if there was a chance to meet regularly with the talented bretheren of the tribe, sharing tips, showing off, and having a great time!
Iv never met a yakker that I didn't like (tho I imagine there are one or two who don't like me ), their dedication, passion and genuine excitement for a topic and subject that I myself also feel so greatly about, is so refreshing and alleviating!! It is something that I feel should be encouraged and if all it takes is for me to write afew posts, what have I got to lose!?
It would be great if one day I could play against you bastion, and likewise to all yakkers and yak lurkers!
Life is short and gets increasingly quicker, get involved and enjoy your hobby!
Let this thread be a beacon to all those who don't feel confident enough to say, and a harbour for those that do!

Tho I think this is the first time ever I have seen anyone show lament about leaving London to come this far into the wilderness!?! It's usually the other way round, I mean, they can't even get premiership footballers to stay here and 9 out of 10 celebrities (from the NE) only visit to wave at the peasantry!

But Bastion and Ratvan thank you so much! It has given me great food for thought, just knowing you are interested (plus the likings of you other amazing yaks!) has really made my day!
It's a good point you make about it being on a weeknight, it's just that its a night where I know I can get the venue for free, which, is an important factor until I know if people are going to turn up or not! iv got afew different venues in mind (all pubs ) if there was a massive interest and I definately wouldn't mind moving it to the weekend if that's what suited people better?
Which leads to the question - would either of you like to set something up down there?
I would really love the idea of a greater northern group and I would totally change the thread title to the 'grim dark North'!? And I would totally be involved with it!
But I would have it on a rotation so like one month up here and one down there? And there would be no expectation for people to travel if they couldn't or didn't want to!
What do you think?

I love the enthusiasm @CaptainDangerous its infectious, I will have a word with the committee members and gamer reps we have at the club when I go this week and discuss possible events, they usually run club nights 7-10:30 every Tuesday and one Saturday a month they do a day or campaign of something, I know they currently have a silver tower and bloodbowl event planned. But there always open to suggestions and ideas and running new events maybe you could get here easier @Ratvan ? If something could be arranged.

This sounds ace bastion, it would definately get the ball rolling!
Provided they don't mind us taking up one of their tables once every two month, this would be a great stepping stone until we could get more Yakmen together and set something up for ourselves! The Tuesday or Saturday are good for me! It just means we'd have to be on our best behavior, but it would be great to show off and possibly initiate some outsiders into the glorious tribe of yak!
The worst they can do is say no, but I really hope they like the idea and I'm really looking forward to what they have to say!

I'll be sure to do a post up tomorrow after I've been tonight. Got a game of 40k with my wolves against some mechanicum. There is lots of different games there and most of the guys I've met are all laid back and willing to try new systems or drag out there old miniatures for other systems.

@Bastion would that be SR Wargamers by any chance? Went there a couple of times a few years back.

@Ratvan There called the Rogue gamers and meet above a pub which is handy, it's actually in Rotherham but most people haven't heard of it or only heard bad things, so I tend to just say near Sheffield. It's opposite the train station and there's plenty of parking near by to if you ever fancy a night down. There's a couple of groups in Sheffield I heard about I might go to at some point when I have a bit more free time

Hey Ratvan! I get the impression your not keen on the idea of using another group as a platform, and I would totally understand where you are coming from (if you aren't that is). If I tried to get something organised down there for the end of next month would this be better for you?

Just knowing the both of you are interested makes me happy, but if we could get something arranged that would be awesome! The only thing I can't promise tho is that you won't cry when iv gettin a ten game killstreak!

As for my durham meetup, iv updated the info at the beginning of the thread for anyone who might be interested?
I'll just be getting on with my necromunda buildings and/or possibly abit of my comp entry, but if anyone turns up that would be brilliant! .....You all will be guaranteed either a battle report or a project log by next Wednesday!

Hey @CaptainDangerous , my spacewolves put up a brave fight in the face of the mechanicum and there knight ally and those oh so fickle dice gods and managed to battle to a draw due to contesting objectives and my first kill points.

As for the possibilitie of holding a event, on the day the was only one gamer rep there, and it was rather busy this week. So I had a quick conversation with him, and he said he could see it happening but I would have to put it in writing and speak to the committee.

Basically you have to be a fulll time member before you can run or ask for events, I will be a full time member at the end of march because you serve a three month probationary period. I have already messaged a couple of the other committee members and gamer reps and they are all excited and have told me to fill out the idea and get it down on paper and we will go from there. There are however events planned already on the Saturday through to may so far. So I will continue writing up a plan and get it together to run through with the committee sometime in the next couple of weeks

Really good stuff bastion!
Although this is a good example of why we need our own scene, the fact that they like the idea is really possitive! This was always going to be a slow burning process, but if you could get an entire club involved that would be like pouring petrol to get the bbq going! (Disclaimer: I encourage nobody to play with fire or petrol.....especially not together!)
But just an idea, (I wouldn't want you to do anything to jeopodise your club membership), could you speak to the pub landlord and see about having a specialist games night on another evening? It's just if the other club is doing well, he might relish having a different group, especially if he had another quiet night!? ....?
And spacewolves never draw .......surely they won by virtue of being way cooler!! ....or at least as cool as one can be wearing fur draped power armour!

As for Tuesday night, as you probibly all guessed, I am the current champion of the North East with 0 wins, 0 loses and 0 draws!
But I did get a building completely finished and a load of pictures taken of my terrain! I'll post my terrain in the captains log, and just for you fine fellas who are great enough to be reading this, here's a couple of pics of what I got upto!....

Iv updated the event info at the beginning of the thread (by that I mean Iv changed February to march ) and hopefully this gives you all abit more of a chance!
If any of you have any ideas or suggestions please get in touch! I don't mind changing dates or venues if it makes it easier for people, so I'd really like to hear from you all!

With regards the pub, it does hold events or varying clubs most nights of the week and rents the function room out most weekends. If my plan comes to fruition I could rent it out through the club no problem it just take a little organisation and booking in advance, if it was a little closer for me I would love to pop up on the train or something for a day/night of gaming. I have a few ideas I'm working on so we will see how things pan out

Sounds good! maybe try get something sorted out once you've got Yakday out the way? (sounds great btw! might have been able to make it if I'd returned to the site a bit earlier to see it)

As for when and where - I'm real easy! Got a portable table, a load of terrain and transport.
