Hi all,

Following on (several years later) from the Scarus Sector invasion (https://yaktribe.games/community/threads/bfg-campaign-scarus-sector.6174/), we're at it again. This time with new*, improved**, better*** campaigns, battles and maps!

So, maps you say, well good sir, lady, gentlebeast, here is the map of the Hazeroth Abyss, with the commonly used warp routes on.

Our players are:
P = Imperials
R = Chaos
@feralhaggis = Marines
@andrewedwardbrown = Chaos
@BearsWillEatYou = Nids
Yours Truly = ORKS!!!
@Lazyboy346 = Chaos
L = Tau
@DarkMouse = Chaos

Starting positions are yet to be decided (I've decided, just not told the rest of them yet), and while it looks fairly chaos heavy, some of our players are notorious for not attending much, so overall, it'll work. And either way, chaos like a good scrap with each other anyway!

We've had our first game, a 4v3, 2000 points per side. It was nominally a draw, and just gave everyone a bloody nose to start with, which was kinda the point. I'll do a better update on the opening skirmish soon. In the meantime, bask in the glory of my fleet registry, and giggle at my LD on everyone who needs to regularly reload!

And so dear traveler, here we have the coginators official map, showing the administratums official classification of each planet in terms of their value to the fleets of the imperium, and what resources admirals can expect to be able to strip from them in the persecution of His wars. This map has been filtered to show primary resources of grade theta-alpha-three or above. Your current clearances do not permit you to view the fleet depositions or the intelligence reports on the whereabouts of our enemies. Please submit applications form F1 through F14 for clearance.

I look forward to enjoying this campaign vicariously and request many pictures and battle reports.
Thank you for your inquiry citizen, you're request has been logged. Please note you are [342242] in the que. Please find a seat and await your summoning.

is so a pirate base though.
We can neither confirm nor deny this is a location for Pirates (SHUDAP!-SHUDAP!-SHUDAP!)

Good to see the menu sorted out. Do I have to order everything at once, or can I decide on dessert later if I want to?

I should probably post some pictures of the in progress fleet on here too, huh?

Thank you for completing forms F1 through F14. Clearance is now granted. Overlaying fleet dispositions now. Please hold.

Hazeroth Abyss Opening Systems_221019_133729.jpg

Indicative warp flares suggest that the Arch enemy fleets have taken Phagir as their staging post in the sector and have quickly rushed to engage on as many fronts as possible. They appear to be on intercept courses with a splinter tendril of the Tyranids between Malice and St Astrid's Fall, whatever the outcome of this fleet engagement, the souls on those worlds can be considered lost. Other warlords appear to be pushing out for Samson IV and the Bloodfell System. One of those fleets has had the mighty Astartes dispatched to intercept, while the other appears to be on about to fall upon an Ork fleet raiding the Eastern fringe of the Sector. Our only hope is that they exhaust each other allowing for the outnumbered Imperial Battlefleets to cleanse the sector of these foul heretics and xenos.

The ork fleet field strength, as requested m'lord. Reports from the imperial fleet suggest an escort squadron was destroyed. They are also claiming they blew up an asteroid, and seem quite proud of the fact, although our tacticians are not sure why. More importantly, the firing records suggest that they have inflicted significant damage on the flagship of the Ork fleet, and inflicted significant damage on another squadron of escorts. Worryingly they also show further firing solutions on another asteroid, which we are investigating as to if this was a malfunction or temporary madness in the heat of battle. Suitable punishments will be enforced once the investigation is complete.

So we played a game of 750 orks, 750 night lords v 1500 imperial. The game was goinf fairly balanced with some damage on each side, until one brutal turn when the Savages got into range behind a set of 3 Lunas. The ensuring salvo one shotted a luna, which promptly exploded, damaging the middle cruiser and destroying the already weakened 3rd cruiser, which then also obligingly exploded. The resulting explosion finished off the central cruiser (who became a blazing hulk), and reduced the battle cruiser ahead of them to 1 hit point, which the night lords promptly finished off.

It was a resounding victory for the Ork/Chaos fleet, and both gained a system, while the imperials beat a swift retreat with the other half of their fleet that had survived.

The other games fought are written into the logs below. If I can get the pics onto the computer I will put them up later this week with a more detailed write up where I can. I'm also hoping @andrewedwardbrown will be able to pop up a updated map with the expanded fleet control zones.

Eh? Sounds like the outcome of the Nids vs Chaos game got a little scrambled there- I blame the maddening effects of the Shadow on local astropaths. ;-)

The Chaos fleet had a comfortable lead on VPs over me at the end (my fleet was gone barring a lightly scratched Hiveship and very hungry Kraken), so they'd have taken St Astrid's Fall while I fell back to spawn more escorts.
On the plus side, I didn't actually lose anything that wasn't replaced with no consequence due to the oddities of Tyranid instinctive control- as far as I know I'm just treading water with no new system and no net Renown change.

Otherwise things went pretty much as described: we're both pretty new to BFG and misjudged how much Fleet Engagement could split our fleets up. Unfortunately for me, Chaos Cruisers can operate effectively alone and reposition quickly (especially with a handy planet to get free turns around) whereas Tyranid ships are far more lumbering. My Hiveship (close to half my points in this 750pts game) spent most of the game half a board away from anything useful, launching attack craft that couldn't reach a useful target until the closing turns of the game.
Still, lessons were learned. I'll be more prepared next time and ready to make exciting new mistakes instead...

I'll update the log, although cba to repost it now so will do that when I get round to it

As always, everyone else in the campaign is more than welcome to write up their own bat reps, stories, fleet registry etc etc!

[Access granted]-Long range satellites recon files released - Records for Fleet engagement over Samson IV open [Accessing]

Engagement in progress. Imperial fleet battle line split. Observe Ork disposition to be from 3 directions. Envelopment complete. Note Night Lords fleet approach masked by gas cloud. Initial fire exchanged - destruction of imperial cobra squadron complete, partial destruction of Ork escort squadron [Ref. Savage escort designation].
IMG-20221028-WA0097.jpg

Imperial cruiser squadron moved into position to engage Ork flagship, unaware of Night lords ready to ambush from behind the gas cloud. Ensuring fire reports show Ork flagship taking crippling damage but able to push past the imperial squadron, while one imperial cruiser was lost to the cross fire of the chaos fleet and the Ork flagship.
IMG-20221028-WA0037.jpg

The next series of images show the other half of the Imperial battle group; a squadron of 3 cruisers and a battle cruiser in the lead. Intent on knocking out the Roks, they failed to account for the surviving Ork escorts [ref. savage class escort]. One Rok was destroyed and the other crippled, but damage was sustained to the cruisers from return fire from the Roks and long range shots from the Chaos fleet. Finally the Ork escorts unleashed their heavy guns, causing a plasma drive overload on a Luna Cruiser. This caused a Warp Drive overload on the imperial cruiser at the other end of the line, with the resulting detonation destroying the final ship in the squadron and crippling the battle cruiser, which was knocked out by a single volley from the Night Lords.

Navy tacticians end report with analysis that this was proper and correct for the remaining cruisers to disengage and the executed captains of both ships will be given posthumous pardons and charges of cowardice struck from their records.

Mara - Uninhabited

We all WISH it was as nice and clean as an uninhabited world...

I don't think I get the reference
The planet of Mara is a Quarantined world in the Calixis Sector, as described in the Dark Heresy adventure Dead Stars, a part of the Haarlock's Legacy series. It's known to be off-limits, under Naval blockade, and extremely cold.

Mara is quarantined because the damned planet has a veil thin enough to cause horriffic warp entities, daemons and other nasty things to bleed through. It was previously a penal colony focused on mining, but its entire population was wiped out. Few things survive on the surface, and the deeper you get the less things follow the normal rules of the materium. It is extremely dangerous. Infamous outlaw Erasmus Haarlock is said to have disappeared here, along with his entire ship (somehow), after slaughtering his entire extended family.

So basically, you'll freeze to death on the surface in a matter of minutes, you'll freeze to death in a matter of hours in the upper levels if the madness doesn't get you, get torn apart by daemons or worse in the lower levels and witness the madness of whatever Erasmus found down there if you ever get to the bottom of the mine.

Sounds like a lovely place! Let the imperials have it I say!

This is my Tyranid fleet roster after the intro game and one "real" game. Not the most auspicious start...

As Tyranids have some weird interactions with the campaign rules, we've made a couple of tweaks:
I'm using a custom Renown table for Tyranids we found online, that levels up all my Hiveships leadership values and gives me re-rolls and imperatives at about the same rate as everyone elses commanders.
Tyranids are functionally uneffected by leadership loss and gain through normal campaign means, so I can be a bit more cavalier with my ships but I'm also completely dependent on increasing my Renown if I want leadership over 8 on anything.
We've swapped around the repairs income from Agri and Forge worlds for me, as that seemed like a fun twist for bioships.

Looks great dude! Loving the write ups as well in the ship histories. Glad to see more of that happening :)

Cheers bud. I really should put some of this up on the discord too... might volunteer one of the others to do that as I find posting on phones a pain
