I'm thinking of creating a Goliath gang with about a 50/50 mix of true Goliath's (Nat and Vat- born) and Unborn Proto Goliaths. I want to represent a gang of workers from a manufactorum who are a mix of both muscly menials and more general indentured workers. I'd be using Goliath Stimmers and forgeborn for the Natborn and Vat born respectively, and a mix of normal human bodies for the Unborn. I was wondering if anyone had experience with using a mix like this and interesting combinations you can make by combining the brute strength of the Goliath's and the speed of the normal gangers. I have already decided my Forge Tyrant will be a Unborn Proto Goliaths, as she is a model to represent a character I played in an Only War game, and definitely does not suit the Goliath musculature. Any comments appreciated!

Having looked at the House of Chains book a bit, along with some other forums here to make sure I'm not kneecapping myself too much, I decided to make a list. Any edits or suggestions appreciated, though as above I would like to keep the tyrant a proto goliath (I know, I know):

995pts total

Forge Tyrant - 210pts
=Unborn Savant, Proto-Goliath, Doc's Experiment (-1 Str, +1 Wound)
=Furnace Plate, Boltgun, Stub Gun
=Fixer

Stimmer - 195pts
=Natborn, Prime Speciment (+1 Toughness), Iron Flesh
=Furnace Plate, Paired Spud Jackers
=Nerves of Steel

Forge Boss - 140pts
=Vatborn, Dermal Hardening, Over-Developed Musculature
=Furnace Plate, Brute Cleaver
=Nerves of Steel
(Planning to get a second weapon as soon as available in campaign)

Bruiser (specialist) - 120pts
=Unborn Shooting, Proto-Goliath
=Furnace Plate, Combat Shotgun
=Hip Shooting

Bruiser - 90pts
=Unborn Agility, Proto-Goliath
=Furnace Plate, Shotgun

Forgeborn - 105pts
=Vatborn, Terminal Biology
=Furnace Plate, Storm Welder

Forgeborn - 145pts
=Vatborn, Terminal Biology
=Furnace Plate, Heavy Rock Saw

I always thought that proto goliaths were for old necromunda players with old style goliaths minis but now I think proto goliaths it would be great to use for normal sized brutes or hardy people (somewhere closer to orlock sort)... Hımmm ... What can I kithbash with

If I were you I'd downgrade and swap the combat shotgun for a normal shotgun on champ and a stub cannon on the Bruiser.

Forgeborn are, to my mind, not a good choice. That rock saw is going to get shot off the board the moment the opponent sees them, and you have enough toughness elsewhere in the gang that you don't need a 105 cred meatshield.

I'd be inclined to go for cheap (stub gun/axe) bullies in the place of the rock saw prospect if you want some melee support to travel down the board with your champions.

Similar for the Storm Welder, however I'm more in favour of it because while its basically a (expensive!) suicide gun, it can be a lot of fun.

Yeah I wouldn’t put terminal biology on a fighter over 100 creds. Though Forge Born a great for speeding around the table, snapping up a Movement advance and grabbing objectives… just with a stub gun, furnace plates, and maybe vatborn dermal hardening.

Last campaign I had a couple of Bullies with incendiary grenades, for a 5” blast dropped 16” from where they started that turn. Just saying 😉

If you save some creds on the Forge Born/Bullies, you’d be able to grab at least some kind of ranged weapon for the Forge Boss (I’m a huge fan of combat shotguns, they are great for the auto-hit & pin).

For the Stimmer, have you thought of maybe using Prime Specimen to add Movement, or an extra Wound?

Ps: Specialists do not start with a free skill.

My thoughts with the Forgeborn is even if they die, the equipment gets returned to the stash. That means the rock saw can get handed out to a fresh body each time if needs must
