So... after constantly watching @Space Truckin and his WARSHED THREAD I realised that even though my own shed based antics probably didn't warrant a thread just about them... I came to the conclusion that a lot of my hobby life now revolves around checking in on my fellow Yaks...

Now, I may not post much but it's probably better if I explain who and why I am now so we don't need to go over it again later.

Firstly- I'm hitting middle age, father of 5 and I am involved 4 businesses, soon to be 5 as of the timing of this post. That being said, I'm trying to be clever, manage my time and fit in as much personal time with family and hobbies as I can while maintaining my commitments. Sadly, one of those businesses is Security and whilst it's been my bread and butter industry for 20 years, it's also hellish to work in - its just a soul draining enterprise between shoddy clients and shoddy people masquerading as staff. Don't get me wrong, we have some amazing customers and staff too, but the minority always make it feel awful.

Now, Coronavirus forced a paradigm shift in almost every way imaginable in life and for me that fell lucky as pre-covid19 I was trying to work from home, generally avoid people and have more time with the kids. The lockdown literally 'forced me' into what I was aiming for.

That brings me to Necromunda.

As an old school player from the 90s, buying the original game on release, followed by Outlanders and running riot with Spyrers (3 Malcodon, 2 Orrus and a Yeld....) my love for the grimdark of Necromunda has long been set in stone. Then sadly, life got in the way, embarrassment about my super nerdy interests, women, family marriage... all of that happened. Then about 10 years ago I decided.... I was no longer embarrassed about something that made me happy. Brought me joy and quite frankly with the hobby side, an amount of skill to be proud of.

More time passed, got ripped off, left homeless, lost everything and then had to rebuild my whole life from absolute zero.

This is when I started up my own business and never looked back. Started to succeed and have managed to achieve a small amount of freedom through a combination of hard work, tears, sacrifice and good fortune.

Bring me to 2017.... Necromunda is being re-released, just in time for my birthday... coincidence! I pre-order it and gang wars... along with some laser cut MDF terrain in order to satisfy my urges...

Skip forward to 2020. Beginning of the year... just before lockdown, I finally open that box and with the help of the Yaktribe I begin to learn the game anew. And not only that... it seems that the timing of everything worked out well enough for me to start playing again, painting again, build scenery and spend some spare money on starting off with YouTube- altogether with a huge amount of support from the Yaks and a few others over on reddit.

I'm thankful to be here, I think the place is epic (which is why I have supported both directly and via Patreon) and I think keeping up a blog here is going to be good for me.

Very cathartic and happy joy joy making.

So... thank you everyone... here is my shed.

Awesome!

This sums up my hobby “journey” quite accurately!

Ps. I’ll be sorting the new ticket list for Yakmeet “shortly”* and will be in touch.

*be aware peeps have died waiting for the troll post office. It’s possible @CaptainDangerous and @radulykan still are.....

I've requested @Malo to move my adventures in 3D printing thread over here as it makes more sense to me that it's in this thread!

I'm in the middle of printing off a bunch of upgrade bits for the Ender 3 Pro after watching this most excellent video so that I'm best poised to begin printing bits for the games.

Note: the printer shall not be living in the shed!!

Loved that mate good video.

Liking the setup. My one thought was do you need a bit of insulation?! I know you live in the south but I’m reliably informed that it gets cold down there sometimes!

Also have you built a boat yet for Yakmeet? You’ll be needing one and it would be something cool and slightly different to make a video about.

Regarding the insulation....

Where I have drawn the red lines behind the OSB sheet and under the floor is 25mm celotex insulation, from when I first put the shed in. It was originally going to be a kennel but a storm damaged the roof and I never repaired it for a year. Time and money were against me.

However, celotex ain't cheap but it is amazing. So it survived and is still in there and the shed is cooler in the heat and warmer in the cold. And the 25mm once cut to the size of the gaps between the uprights fits perfectly for you to board over it. As memory serves you can only go down about 4 inches behind the wall panels before you meet the celotex, so the shed is insulated a good 4 foot up from the floor.

As for the boat... I am thinking about that a fair bit. Don't you worry. 🛥🛥🛥

Amazing 5 threads in 1. The real you, where you work, plog, 3d printing and yakmeat. Did i miss anything!

Serious printer envy. Mines going in the shed. Wanting to get an ender 5+ at the moment but of course it will change. Best laid plans and all...

Knowing how varied my life can be.... having it in one place makes less mess for everyone else 🤣

So, I discovered Tinkercad today. And boy have I been playing around.....

I have also been seriously concerning myself with my Sump Sea Vessel, abusing the new 3D Printer (Yep... its new and shiny... I am gonna abuse it!) and have some things to show you....

First of all, I play Goliaths. Go Big or Go Home.

So its going to be a large boat. End of decision making there. Also, since we can have more than one propulsion type, I think the Goliaths will have an engine. Defo.

And the ability to row, however, I have also decided that rowing... doesn't need to be with oars.... See my ideas below!

Designing those waterwheels was an utter bastard, I'll be honest. But I persevered....

Im using a scaled up titan chassis for the engine block... thats on the back....

And I designed the rest of the barge myself... using TinkerCAD. I have had so much fun doing this....

Let's just say now that I've figured out how to use tree supports that this will be the chosen method for supporting overhangs.

An HOUR of clipping, trimming, pliering and swearing thanks to the default supports Cura deploys and I have learned the hard way.

Still... the engine block is printed.

Make the sides and water wheels next.....

It actually looks a little bit better now that it's had a little light dusting of grey spray paint. I don't have acetone to hand to try a smoothing wipe over on this bit, and to be honest it isn't the be all and end all of the model for me just now.

I've had to try a different stl file to print the sides and water wheels as the lay flat version keeps warping, and the 3rd failed print was enough to hit the drawing board again. So using tree supports and an all in one print approach, I am trying again, this time mounted on a raft to prevent warping.

So we are halfway through the print of the sides and wheels, but in all honesty I think I needed to make the wheels a fair bit wider.

I wont likely do a reprint, but if anyone asks I may expand the size of the wheels if they want the STL updating.

I mean, I MIGHT do a reprint... I will wait till I've printed everything else first and see how the dry fit looks....

... in reality I think I know the answer. Telling myself I won't reprint might be lying.

Could you just stick some bits of plasticard on to make the paddles larger?

Well.... I do have plasticard so possibly yes.

I was just looking at the TinkerCAD image and I realise that the twist I put on the paddles in the design is creating an optical illusion of size. That's why they're printing smaller than desired.

#oops

Having printed V1 before the fatter paddles update to the design... and given them the clean up from supports and a light dust with a white primer... I'm actually really happy.

Yeah I'd prefer fatter paddles but these aren't so skinny as to put me off.
