The life of RonBSM- Youtube, Family: The BLOG

well, my 2kg order of resin arrived today.

So like a shit after a hot curry I shot out... to the shed and mixed up a second pour. A few hours later, less catalyst to slow down the curing a little and the results are promising.

After mixing in more hexwraith flame into the resin and pouring we added a few dots of green, yellow and brown paint and just guided that about without fully mixing it.

@ryanBSM was on hand to help and so far... Happy.

So in advance of my 2x2 water tile and @ryanBSM suggestion of an oil rig, we have been designing.

See below the3D tinkerCAD effort that will allow me to create the STL files for printing bits, and the actual laser cut MDF building that we will be using (yes I recreated it to scale in TinkerCAD in basic form so we could work on the design....)

The pictured crane will be sitting at the top and centre of the rig. It has about a 6" boom so is just about the right sort of size.

@undertaker Yes, its a Wargames Tournament set from a few years ago. Part of the purchase when I bought N17 on prerelease. And then left it in a box for 2 years 🙈

As far as Van Saar-ing it... the trick was taking a building I made up a year ago, with no intent other than building something big, with whatever theme I'd applied to it in my head (see all the big fans along one side of the central tower?) and applying it to the new concept....

All whilst keeping it playable for minis.

The building is big enough to fight over, with almost a 10" square main platform but too big for the modular tiles as they stand as it takes up huge space and can only fit in a few specific places.... meaning that as a standalone item on a water board like @ryanBSM suggested is actually really good.

I'll say it again for TinkerCAD- it took me 20 minutes to recreate the basic shape to scale for the existing building- and it was incredibly helpful for designing what was going to go where in a manner that keeps enough space to play on. I love making scenery on impulse, so much (Insert Eric's Hobby Workshop here!) but sometimes you have to plan this stuff out to balance playability with appearance. And being able to view it in 3D and spin it about allows that.

In fact....

If you look here you'll be able to view it in 3D as well. Just ignore all the crane pieces on the floor, I needed to import the original STL files from Thingiverse, test the size of the baseplate against my building to determine the scale and then adjust them to size and re-export them as new STL files for printing.

This turntable is nifty. I have a few criticisms though... one or two poorly designed bits, but a careful pilot hole, screw and washer later and the print is saved, turntable works. Mini-Diorama / massive base idea now for putting miniatures on instead of just the black disc!

Also.... meet Fuzz.

Unrelated to Necromunda unless someone let's her loose on the table... not really advisable as she can grow up to 9" in legspan....

@RonBSM i was watching your resin pour and noticed you mixed two different colours, did they mix on the board? Or did they stay seperate colours when it set?

The colours were similar in terms of pallette so the effect is subtle.

They didn't mix, but with hindsight I'd have now preferred going with a heavier green and instead of yellow, brown or deep red for the alternate colour (where I would have had 1/3 red and 2/3 green in quantity mixes).

But I've done it now so consistency will be my key 🤣
